Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. This summer, they want to encourage kids to read — and enjoy doing it — with a fun reading challenge/ Have your child under 12 years old sign up at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!
Harper Collins has this tip for helping kids enjoy reading:
Bring Your Book to Life!
A good book lets your child’s imagination run free to visit new worlds. After your child reads a book, help him or her to use other creative parts of their brain and build the world even more by acting out their favorite scene from the book. It’s a great way to have family fun on a summer night, or to bring together your child’s friends on a rainy afternoon. Even better, video the performance and you’ll have a great memory to revisit later!
Here are a few tips:
- Have your child imagine what the book would look like as a movie
- Let them design what the scenery would look like
- Encourage your child to choose their favorite character, and explain why
- And have fun!

The biggest challenge is book competing with the Wii.

My son loves for us to read to him – he’s 3. My problem is finding enough time to sit down and read. We read before naps & bedtime.

My daughter always loved to read – no challenges there. Both my grandkids (18 mo & 6 yrs) love books and enjoy being read to. The only challenge is that my 6-yr-old granddaughter (who knows how to read) would much rather have a book read to her, that read it herself. Encouragement and little games/tricks, e.g., ‘you read one page & I’ll read the next’ help.

Honestly, I don’t have any challenge getting my kids to read! I can’t stop them from reading or wanting to be read to! I know there are far worse things for kids to be hooked on! :-) I love reading so I’m glad I have book-loving kids too! I guess my biggest challenge is to find books that are challenging for my oldest (who reads above his grade level) that are still appropriate and have positive stories. At any rate, this gift card would be well used in this house for sure!!!!

2 of my kids love to read and do it often..the other two like the idea of reading but one of them is addicted to texting and the computer so she doesn’t make the time..and my youngest has a hard time reading so he gets discouraged.

My daughter doesn’t read yet. The biggest challenge is having enough time to be able to sit down and read to her everyday. We try to make sure we do it every night.

It can be a challenge to get them to read books about subjects that they aren’t really into.

Actually, My son loves to read. Right now, he’s going through books so fast we can’t keep up! It’s getting expensive but we’re using the library and used book stores a lot more. Between his habit, mine and my book club, this would come in really handy.
