Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. This summer, they want to encourage kids to read — and enjoy doing it — with a fun reading challenge/ Have your child under 12 years old sign up at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!
Harper Collins has this tip for helping kids enjoy reading:
Bring Your Book to Life!
A good book lets your child’s imagination run free to visit new worlds. After your child reads a book, help him or her to use other creative parts of their brain and build the world even more by acting out their favorite scene from the book. It’s a great way to have family fun on a summer night, or to bring together your child’s friends on a rainy afternoon. Even better, video the performance and you’ll have a great memory to revisit later!
Here are a few tips:
- Have your child imagine what the book would look like as a movie
- Let them design what the scenery would look like
- Encourage your child to choose their favorite character, and explain why
- And have fun!

We just had this discussion last night at Dinner the boys (twins) were saying that they only were interested in on e book on their list, and all the others were for girls, and they did not want to read about girls.

My twin daughters were born three months early and because of that have significant developmental delays. We work really hard with them, and make a point to read a story every night before bed. It’s our special way to end the evening.

Challenges to getting kids to read includes tv,’s, video games, ipods and cell phones (where they can text the day away if you let them). The best thing to do is to set aside time in the day where all that stuff is off limits. Find some books in topics the child likes so they will want to read. Also set by example….if you read the child will most likely follow your lead.

We don’t have the same routine we have during the school year, therefore it is hard to have a set time aside to read.

Well my children are 22 months and 4 months so the way i get them to like reading is how my mom got me to love reading, by reading them a book before bed, by reading throughout the day books and making them exciting so they can see how fun it is!!
this gift card would be great to get some new books for them!

I have an 18 month old and the hardest thing about teaching him to read is how to treat the books! It makes it pretty tough if he is dancing or flipping pages too quickly to read the story!

It is rarely difficult to get mine to read. I started reading to them in the womb and they haven’t stopped since!

I’m very fortunate that my little one loves books! She’s starting to read right now and that is great motivation for her to spend some time with books every day!

My kids like to read, but they seem to get stuck on only certain types of books. I’d like to figure out a way to get them interested in biographies.

My daughter is just starting to read. Her attention span is an issue. Also finding books that entertain her. Some of the first readers aren’t very interesting stories. But we love to sit and read bigger books together. It’s a great mommy daughter time.

My kids’ interest in reading goes up and down. I try to respect the swings, but there have been times that they could earn prizes by reading.

My challenge is actually reading all of the books we bring home from the library.

My son is three. He likes to look at books and “read” but his attention span is just not that long.

Our schedule changes during the summer months with my twin sons playing outside later. This makes them more tired and unfocused during our normal routine reading time right before bed.

It’s hard to get my son to sit for a story. He’d rather be off doing other things.
