Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As schools let out for summer, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. Getting kids to do anything that isn’t on a bike, in a pool or in front of the TV during summer break can sometimes be a daunting task, yet continued reading is important for their minds to continue to grow and bend. Have your child under 12 years old sign up for the challenge at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!

HarperCollins and Jon Scieszka, author of Robot Zot, have provided this week’s tip for getting kids to read:
“If you want to inspire your boy reader, expand your definition of reading to include non-fiction, graphic novels, funny books, wordless books, audio books and magazines. Summer reading is a great time to explore texts that aren’t covered/allowed in school reading.”
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a $100 Borders Gift Card!
To enter, tell me one way you get your kids to read over the summer. What tips and tricks can you share that have them turning off the TV and opening a book?
Every reader has four methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, three, or four for up to a total of 4 entries!!!

I take my granddaughter to the public library. She enjoys storytime and can check out books, games, puzzles and movies. She loves going and it is usually her asking me if we can go. She can’t read yet but loves having me read to her.
Thanks for the chance to win!

I get my kids excited to read by reading to them. I have a 9yr old, 6 yr old, 4 yr old, and 2 yr old twins. They all love to sit together and listen to me read the story to them. This also allows me to read “older” books to them that they would have trouble reading.
Thanks!

We have a rule that everyone in the family (including Mom & Dad!) have to read at least 15 minutes a day. Once they get started, they usually want to keep going! Thanks!

Since my kids are still too little to read to themselves, my reading has never been an issue and they always want to read stories. My plan when they’re older is to have book clubs where they can get together with their friends and discuss books, maybe even have snacks based on the books.

We keep the tv off until it is time for a specific program (kids get 3-4 shows a week, husband and i get 4 shows a week at night). That way we all end up reading more together and by ourselves!

We buy our boys a new book to read on vacation. Our rule is that they can’t do any reading until we’re on our way in the car.
We also participate in our library’s summer reading program. Those goofy prizes are great incentives.

My oldest is only 4 but I think it is crucial to instill the love of reading even that young! I limit the time my kids sit in front of the t.v. each day and then make sure there are plenty of books where they can reach them. I make sure I read to them each day and plan outings to the library! (You might be able to tell I’m a little bit of a booknerd myself.)

My daughter was easy, drop her at the library and she would read for hours and come home with quite a few books. With my son I would read and he would read the our separate copies of the same book and at night we’d talk about what we liked about the chapter.
