When you think about Borders, a large selection of books neatly lined up on shelves is probably what comes to mind. I know that was my first thought. But Borders recently expanded over 500 of their stores to include a wonderful selection of high-quality educational toys and games, including one of my favorites, Melissa & Doug toys.
Borders recently gave me a $100 gift card to check out their new lineup, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how far I was able to stretch this money. All together I managed to score six different Melissa & Doug toys, two I Spy books, an illustrated book of military airplanes, and a small collection of Mickey Mouse board books with a figurine for my “Mickeh Mou” lovin’ baby boy. I came in slightly over budget at $117, but that also included another children’s book that I picked up to donate to the Borders Charity Book Drive.
I found the selection to be quite varied, with choices that encompassed the varied interests of all five of my children, and the employees were extremely helpful. Both ladies working at the store were visited were very knowledgeable and offered suggestions on the best items to choose and were able to help us find exactly what we were searching for.
By the way, if you love the adorable lineup of Melissa & Doug toys, you’ll be excited to know that they are buy one get one 50% off through December 28th! Since both my husband and I are out of work I would use this GC towards my Christmas shopping. My daughter is IN LOVE with Twilight so I would probably buy something of that sort for her. My son just LOVES books, whether it’s just flipping through the pages and looking at the pictures, “reading” the book to me (he’s 4), or the nightly bedtime story. So needless to say, I would probably use the entire card towards books.

I love Borders, I just became a rewards member last week. I would definately stock up on Melissa & Doug toys… my daughter wants a jewelry box for Christmas and they make the cutest “design-your-own” jewelry box!
I also have Apples to Apples on my Christmas list, so we’d get that!
Thanks for offering this fun contest!

My two year old son is so bright. I definitely would buy a resource book like: “The Complete Resource Book for Preschoolers: An Early Childhood Curriculum With over 2000 Activities and Ideas!” I would also buy Thomas the Train books, the Wow Wow Wubbzy Sing A Song CD and any books that I can find about manners and good behavior!! As for me, I love American History so Thomas Fleming’s “The Imtimate Lives of the Founding Fathers” would also be a must!
Jena

For my nephew, some Louis Sachar books because he’s finally at the age where I know he’ll find them hilarious; for our soon-to-born baby, some Charlie and Lola books that will keep me awake at night while I try to put her to sleep; and for my husband and myself, the new Malcom Gladwell. Yay!
