Fresh flowers are always welcome in my house.
Sure diamonds or electronics or perhaps perfume would be nice, but those items have not been in our budget for several years now with my husband’s repeated layoffs. And honestly, it wouldn’t matter anyhow because a heartfelt card and a beautiful bouquet of flowers are so much more special and meaningful, in addition to being far less expensive.
My husband’s a lucky man because I’ve never been much enamored of roses. I prefer unique flowers in vibrant colors like these gorgeous fresh-cut Gerbera daisies from Colombia, Land of Flowers. In a fun twist, they arrived un-arranged with a “recipe” for creating a topiary arrangement worthy of being the centerpiece for a special Mother’s Day dinner.
The instructions were thorough and easy to follow, so even a novice like myself could create an arrangement to be proud of. I wanted something a little more traditional, so I swapped the mug for this beautiful Petite Arrange-It-Easy Vase from Southern Living at HOME.
I love having fresh flowers in the house because they just brighten up the rooms so much, and I can’t help but smile every time I see them. A Mother’s Day bouquet means so much more to me than any ordinary gift. It’s a cheerful reminder of my responsibilities as a mom to help grow and nurture my beautiful children.
What’s on your Mother’s Day wishlist? Or better yet, what are you getting your mom for Mother’s Day?

I usually get my mom fresh flowers- she is one of those people who has everything (or gets what she wants) so she is very hard to buy for. Pictures are always a nice touch, too, especially now that she is a Grammie :)
For me, I really like to just relax with my hubby and boys. Of course I love fresh flowers, but since we just started a new garden- I may tell hubby to forgo the flowers and buy me a new vegetable plant :)

My sister-in-law and I got the grandbabies together and had their photos taken..It was difficult for the photographer to get a shot with all 3 looking at the lens, but it finally happened! We purchased the picture in an 11 x 14 and at the top of the photo there is little squares with closeup snapshots of each one of the kids. We purchased a pretty frame for it as well. She will love it as she had no idea we were getting the pictures taken. We’re going to put a wallet size in a cute photo keychain for her as well, so wherever Nana is she can get a look at her cuties!

Your arrangement is beautiful Tara! While I love the look of cut flowers, I hate the expense and then they die in a few days or a week. So I love to get flowering plants that I can then move outside after I’m done enjoying it in the house for a week or so. That way it’s a lasting reminder of the gift! In our family that’s what the moms always want- flowers/plants for the yard/garden. I love the sentimental photo gifts, handprints, and personalized gifts the best though… especially now that I’m a mom!

I love the arrangement! I’ve asked for a Lowe’s GC for Mother’s Day so I can go buy flowers to plant outside.
I’m giving my mom a digital photo frame purchased after Christmas at 75% off. I also made her a gift basket of fun things she’ll enjoy. The “basket” is a painted food dome from World Market. I placed a silicone pot holder, some brightly colored napkins, Harry & David Bing Cherry Chocolates and Licorice(blech! but she loves it!) in there.

I’d like a place to store all of my stockpile items that I have accumulated with my coupons!!!! Nice shelves, temperature controlled…..!!! Ahhh….how nice that would be.

My mom’s gift has been in the works for months. I usually put together the great finds I get at CVS, Walgreens, or even online, and put them in a pretty basket or gift bag. This year is the ultimate spa package with the dove vitalizer face cleaner, ped egg(4 bucks each during an amazon sale!), glade soy based candles and her favorite aveeno lotion. I’m also going to make homemade truffles for her from some free lindt chocolate I got a while ago. It’s probably a sixty dollar gift retail, but I think I might have paid 5 to 7 dollars for everything.
Now for me? I just want to sleep lol. Seriously, we are going to my favorite circus on saturday night, so that’s going to be my gift.

It’s my first Mother’s Day this year, so on my wishlist is sleeping in! We decided to get my mom and mom-in-law mousepads with our baby’s picture printed on them for Mother’s Day, cute, cheap, and it’ll make them smile while they’re working to see their grandbaby everyday :).

My mum is just like you! Flowers would be her gift of choice for every occasion. Not that she hasn’t liked other things we’ve given her, but flowers she seems to talk about forever. One big, special birthday we ordered her a really fancy arrangement, well, she couldn’t stop talking about it! :D

My idea of the perfect mother;s day gift is for the kids and my husband to hire Merry Maids for me!!!!!

Very cute! But I agree with some of the others, its an expense that will die. I prefer a relaxing day with the entire family. My fave is breakfast in bed made by the kids (totally gross), flowers picked from the garden, cards and gifts made by hand. There is only one thing I want from my DH, and thats to keep the kids happy all day. :o) I know, no easy task there! lol

Love the topiary! On my wishlist?? A day off!!!
Wonder if I will get it?

I would like it if my husband arranged for a babysitter and we could just be alone and get some drinks and get a little tipsy.. Or maybe go somewhere and drink. .

Bath & Body Works had a 50% off sale on their Optimism line. I sent mom the compact umbrella and water bottle. She really liked them both!
Enjoy your special day.

I think the best present is doing something and/or spending time with your mom (this is especially true for grown up kids who don’t live in the house any more). Plan an activity for mothers day that you can do with your mom… Now that my mom has passed away, I wish so much that I had spent more time with her and planned more things for us to do- the stuff I gave her didn’t end up mattering in the end, it is the memories and experiences that are important!

Cute flowers! I am terribly allergic to flowers, so after years of headaches, runny noses, etc., my husband finally figured out that it wasn’t such a great gift. I love flowers, just don’t love to be around them!
This year, I would like to thank the local YMCA for planning the Adventure Princesses two day camp over Mother’s Day weekend. My husband and daughter leave Friday night and return Sunday around lunchtime. I am planning to use some Spa Finder gift certificates on Saturday that I received at Christmas 2007(!!!) but haven’t had a chance to use (hopefully they’re still good – there’s no expiration date) and then I’ll relax quietly at home – maybe clean clutter that I haven’t been able to tackle.

I appreciate the small things, and not necessarily things that would die…Hubby once spent around $50 on flowers when we were flat broke, that really bothered me. I love flowers, but when you are broke, you are, well broke, you need to live within your means. A $2.99 boquet from Aldies would of been just as appreciated. I love fresh flowers, but when it takes several hours of pay to pay for them, its not worth it to me. Like many others, plants to put outside would be far more appreciated. Or a simple, cheap date, to get away from the kids for a little bit. Or hubby and the kids making breakfast, and letting me sleep in and have time for a shower without being interrupted. Or what about hubby and the kids doing my chores? Hmmm….sounds simple but more complex than they all realize. Any of those things would make a great Mother’s Day. I just love my family, and love the simple things.

Love the arrangement. Simple and elegant.
As the “gringa” in a family of Colombians though I have to correct your spelling. The country is spelled with 2 O’s and no U’s. :) Common mistake around here! And you are right they have the most amazing flowers!

OMG, excellent catch, Laura! And to think I placed 23rd in the Scripps Ohio Spelling Bee in middle school . . . I’m ashamed of myself.

My husband usually makes breakfast for me on Mother’s Day. It is also very close in date to our anniversary so I hope he combines presents. I don’t really need anything – maybe my 2 year old will dance for me or draw a picture!
For my mom, I made a double strand bracelet for her with the names of her grandkids! She will love it!

My kids asked me what I wanted just yesterday. I explained that I don’t want anything material, I have all the “things” that I need. I want a day of being left alone — everyone out of the house so I can enjoy some peace and quiet on my own in my own house. Before I was a parent, I thought this was a given :) now I realize it is extremely hard to come by. My daughter responded she wanted to buy me something instead. [Sigh]

I LOVE Gerbera daisies! I’m hoping for a simple bouquet of them. I’m happy with some from Walmart or Kroger! I know I’m receiving a book tote in the Vera Bradley pattern I love (printed the coupon for my hubby), and I know my son made me something at school. I can’t wait to see what that is!
I still haven’t decided about what to get my mom. Late, I know! I’m giving my grandmother a collage print of pics of her grandchildren and great grandchildren together. We live across the country from each other, and last month was the first time that my cousin and I had ever met each other’s children.
