Walmart Corporate Coupon Policy

June 15, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 346 Comments

This is definitely useful information to be aware of. If you’d like to print it off so you can carry it with you (as I always do!), here’s a direct link to the Walmart corporate coupon policy.

Walmart accepts the following types of coupons (see guidelines below):

  • Manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
  • Free merchandise (or Buy-One-Get-One-Free) coupons
  • Store coupons
  • Pharmacy (Advertising and Promotional) coupons
  • Internet coupons
  • Soft drink container caps

The following are guidelines and limits:

  • Walmart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase.
  • Coupons should have an expiration date and be presented within the valid dates. Walmart will not accept expired coupons.
  • Internet coupons should be legible and say “Manufacturer Coupon.” There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and a scannable bar code.
  • Only one coupon per item is permitted.
  • Use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by Customer Service Manager.

Although it’s not explicitly stated here, in my experience, if your total savings are more than 50% off your total purchase price, your transaction will require approval by a Customer Service manager as well.

When I try to print a coupon it leaves off the very last portion of the coupon with the expiration date….any ideas of what is wrong?

Thank you……I am new to this!

Hey, I see that at times you use more then one coupon per item. Wal Mart’s policy above states: Only one coupon per item is permitted.
Do they accept 2 coupons on certain items?

Shelly, I do use more than one coupon per item in some instances but not at Walmart. The only time you can do this is if a store accepts both manufacturer coupons and store coupons on the same item in a purchase. Walmart does state that they accept store coupons, but I’ve never actually seen a Walmart store coupon.

That makes sense! I wasn’t thinking, Walgreens seems to be one that would accept all. Thanks for the reply!

    Hi,

I was wondering if you could clarify the “store coupons” for me stated in the policy. Does this mean they accept only Walmart store coupons, or that they will accept other store coupons as well.

For example…is it possible to use the current Walgreens $10 off Samucal Easy Saver Coupon at Walmart? My Walgreens is out of the Sambucal and my hubby and son both came down with the flu today, so I really could use the stuff and a rain check is not going to help.

thanks & love your blog…it has been a huge help with guiding me on how to save money for my family.

Jenna, I think they’re talking about Walmart store coupons in the policy (which I’ve never actually seen Walmart store coupons); however, I’ve had other readers tell me that they do accept competitor coupons if they have the regular price of the item stated on them. Unfortunately, the Easy Saver coupons don’t have this info, and so they probably wouldn’t work. It’s worth a try though. You just never know with the way every Walmart store seems different.

My local Wal Mart has recently told me they are no longer accepting internet coupons. Do stores get to choose if they want to accept these or not? Should I insist they take them since it is company policy?

Stores do not get to choose if they want to accept them or not. I’m working with Walmart to implement a process for coupon issues, but in the meantime, the best thing to do is contact customer service. I would also recommend carrying the coupon policy to show them that you’re educated on their policies.

I just went to Wal-Mart yesterday and used over $8 in IP coupons, and they took them without questions. I even used coupons where they owed me money. However, I made sure I went to the line with a young person working because they generally question less (not always). I did have the coupon policy with me just in case I had problems though.

I went to Walmart this week to get the Bolt DVD. I price Matched to Nebraska Furniture Mart’s ad at $13.99. I tried to use the $5 IP but the lady wouldn’t let me do both the price match and use the IP…is this right. She said this constitutes two promotions and the coupon states ‘not to be used with any other promotion”…It was my thinking that the price match wasn’t a ‘promotion,’ so much as a ‘policy’….can you let me know your stance on this? And if you CAN do both, who would you suggest I complain to. I thought I saw a posting on your site one time for the corporate number… please help!!

I’m pretty sure the cashier was wrong. I’ve known of a lot of people that price match and use coupons, so I can’t imagine that this would be any different. You can call 1-800-WALMART (1-800-925-6278) to reach the Walmart customer service.

    question on price matching/overages at Wal-Mart –
Meijer has excedrin on sale for .99 this week.
i have a $2 off Q – will Wal-Mart take that? Do they adjust it down?

Also, my CVS is out of the scrubber starter kit for $2.99 – so I’m wondering if I can have Wal-Mart price match that and then still use my $2.75 off coupon!?!?

I’m always afraid I’m doing something illegal when getting these deals! I don’t want to get in trouble. LOL

If you take the CVS ad in, they should price match it and still allow you to use the coupon. As long as you’re not trying to circumvent the terms on the coupon, you have no reason to worry!

Hi! I went to Walmart yesterday with a internet coupon from CoffeeMate. The supervisor told me that I couldn’t use it because it was printed in black ink! The reasoning was that it could be photocopied. Has he ever heard of color copiers? I sent an email to their customer service department but I may try the number about also.

Just another FYI for Wal-Mart shoppers – I shopped at my local Wal-Mart this week and spent a good 2 hours going through my coupons and loaded my buggie to the top! At the checkout, the cashier only wanted to accept the coupons I had clipped from the newspaper fliers, she did not want to accept the internet coupons I had printed. I had over $25 in savings with the internet coupons alone – so naturally, I pressed her on the issue. Another cashier came over and, very reluctantly, they allowed me to use the internet coupons “this time.” They told me that they had a problem with someone presenting a bogus “Hanes” coupon in the past – UGH! They questioned whether I had copied the coupons – because they are in black and white. I pointed out the watermark on the coupons, and explained that you cannot reproduce the watermark if you try to copy them. Needless to say, I am going to print out their coupon policy and will have it in hand upon my next buggy load purchase – but, I still expect a hassle whenever I have the internet coupons.

The person from customer service emailed me back and stated that the policy on their website is the one in effect, I will definitely bring it with me. I asked her if stores could have their own policy but she didn’t answer that question.

Okay, last post! The manager from Walmart called me to apologize for my experience. She even offered to redeem the coupon with or without the purchase on my next trip! A little bit of faith restored. :)

I have encounter so many problems with Wal-Mart sotes, that I am tired to hassle with them every time I try to use internet coupons. I also tried the store coupons. I called their customer service phone number and asked them if they accept coupons from other store and aslo gave them the example. It was an Albertson’s coupon for Life cereal for $.99 They said YES I DO.
I carry their coupon policy with me and show it to them, still they couldn’t believe it. They did it “just for this time”.
Tonight I had the problem again with a Walgreens coupon, they said that their policy is for Wal-Mart coupon, which is dumb, because Wal-Mart doesn’t carry coupons. They I show them the policy and they said “well, pharmacy coupons is for pharmacy products only, like medicine, this are beauty products”… ??????
    what?
I am so tired of this, I sent an e-mai lto their corporate, I also will be calling their 1-800 number and sending a letter to their corporate office. Is amazing that they don’t train their associates, managers, etc. or at least put a copy of their policy where everybody can see it.
I hope this can be solved soon.

    Hi,

I just wanted to share this bit of info with you. Not all Wal-Mart stores accept coupons printed from the computer. I have yet to find a Wal-Mart store in the state of Oklahoma that will accept computer printed coupons.

    Thanks

I’ll be printing this off and taking it with me next time. Today I tried using the $4 Pace Salsa coupon that was available a while back and was refused because “It’s $4, so it must be fraudulent”. I assured her it wasn’t and was printed legitimately, but she wouldn’t relent and treated me like I was a thief.

Well I am done with Wal-mart and their policies. After watching the movie “Wal-Mart: the High cost of low price” I am done with them.
I will do my grocery shopping somewhere else.
I just realized, how they keep prices low?
bringing them from China, with low quality and pay low salaries to their employees.
    goodbye Wal-Mart.

One Wal-Mart near me takes IP coupons w/o question. Another one would not take them at all. When I asked the Assistant Mgr. of that store why another Wal-Mart would take the IP coupons but not her store, she made a phone call & asked a few questions to the person. She then told me they will take all IP coupons w/ manufactors coupon & exp date on it. She told the cashier to begin taking IP coupons (the cashier told the Assist. Mgr that there was a big sign in the break room saying do NOT take IP coupons..mmhmmm) So hopefully this Wal-Mart will take them from now on. Pretty frustrating but Jamie, the Assistant Mgr was very very helpful & friendly.

I am VERY new to this, but does Wal-Mart honor all competitor’s ads, plus the coupons you bring in?

Aubrey, I believe the policy is that they will honor any competitor’s ad within a 50-mile radius, plus all manufacturer coupons.

Wal-mart is supposed to honor any coupon that has the following: 1-Manufactorer’s coupon 2-valid expiration date 3-bar code. They also should match competitor’s ad if you bring the ad in. What they wont accept are other grocery stores coupons for a certain amount of money off of a purchase. Example: Vons offers you a coupon for $5 off when you spend $50 (Albertsons does also) Wal-mart will not accept these type of coupons. =) Best advice I can give you is to keep a seperate yahoo email account for all coupon/sign ups. Then sign up for everything. Proctor & Gamble,Unilever, your dog food company etc etc etc. You’ll get sent offers and coupons almost immediately for most of them, plus you’ll have a seperate email address to go over them without messing up your own email account. =)
