We get together with friends for playdates, go to parks and the library, and my oldest child does swim team–very cheap for lots of good exercise! Of course, we swim at our neighborhood pool a lot.

We joined our local pool(before the price hike!) and are there as much as possible! Both of mine LOVE it. My 3 1/2 YO is always ready to go. We either eat lunch at home and take drinks and snacks OR pack a picnic. One is almost 4 and the other just turned 1. We slather on the sunscreen and have a blast. Also, going to the park(within walking distance) and running thru the sprinklers pack a bunch of fun. Also, we plan on going to FREE movie Fridays this summer….so much to do and so little time!

Inflatable pool in the backyard, and plenty of dirt for the kids to dig around in under shaded trees. Can’t get much better than that!

My daughter, husband, and I all have summer birthdays, so I signed us all up for all the local restaurants and ice cream parlors’ email lists…most of them send freebies on/around your birthday, so we can occassionally enjoy free ice cream, free pizza, etc INDOORS when the heat is too much! On the nicer days, we like the free splash parks around town, and just playing with bubbles in the backyard in the early evening when the sun is not bad.

Cheap summer entertainment… anything involving popcicles, water sprinkler, trip to the coast where it is cooler and breezier! My toddler loves his “water table”- so as long as I change up the assortment of toys in it- dollar bin stuff, he is content.

On hot days, we like to make our own Popsicles with different flavored Kool Aids, and sit in our little pool enjoying the sun!
Or if it gets too hot, we may go see a $1 movie, or just rent movies and chill out in the house.
Whatever we do, we always try to have the most fun we can!!

We’re all about the picnics. During the summer we pack a lunch and head out to the different parks in town. If we’re feeling a little flush (usually at the beginning of the month), we’ll use a BOGO coupon from our local Entertainment book to get an ice cream on the way home!

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is to go to a city water park. It is small, basic, kid-friendly, and FREE. During the summer daylight hours they turn the water on (it is on a movement/activity sensor). My kids LOVE it and will play for hours.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
