We love to play in the sprinklers or in the blow up pool right in our backyard. It requires little planning and we water the grass at the same time. It keeps the kids occupied for hours.

Go RVing! Last year we bought a pull-behind trailer to see if we would use and enjoy it. We outgrew that and just recently found an older RV that can fit us better. For about $18/night we can enjoy campsites that sometimes have pools, playgrounds, lakes, and other activities. And by buying a used RV, it actually cost us less than our 2002 SUV! (You just have to look for the good deals).

I limit my outings (I’m a teacher off for summer break with a 9 month old.) to my once weekly trip to Publix which makes me feel like such a frugal contributor to our household and satisfies my shopping urge where only Macy’s would do that before I found your blog. :) Thanks!!!

Playing with water balloons in the backyard is a favorite summer activity for my children!!

We plan on going to the local water fountains to cool off! It’s free, and close by!

We LOVE getting wet at our house so the sprinkler is the cheapest way we have fun. Also the county we live in has FREE activities every Saturday throughout the summer.

We spent $40 for a whole summer at Adventure Island — our local water park in Tampa, FL. They offer a weekday summer pass and it is only $40 for the whole summer — great fun!

We enjoy the local YMCA outdoor pool. My three boys love to swim!

After sunscreen the kids run through the sprinklers, go to the park, or create their best sidewalk art. Then they have a “picnic” of fruit, juice, and ice pops. We are now all ready for a nap.

I think there’s nothing more fun than making your own popcicles with your kiddos and then enjoying them in the sunshine. My daughter’s favorite are made with grape Kool-Aid. It’s a special treat that’s inexpensive and classic!

We like to visit one of our local parks. My DS loves to play there, and it also has a fitch hatchery, where you can buy a pretty large amount of fish feed for a nickel! Our boy thinks its the coolest thing ever to feed them! Then we like to stop by one of our towns local spray stations to cool off (you wouldn’t think it gets that hot in Montana, but it DOES!), followed by ice cream cones at Dairy Queen of course!
