In the morning we make popsicles out of OJ in ice trays so by lunch we can snack on them. I take the kids outside and use the “alternate” sheets to make a tent on the cloths line. And we use the mini pool we got at Kmart for a song and call it the lake! with duckies (rubber ones) and all.

We have passes to the Cincinnati zoo and use them quite often through out the year but especially during the summer months. We go for the morning, bring a snack and head back home for a nap (if it doesn’t happen in the car). Our local parks also offer great fun during the summer months. Thanks.

To save money but still have fun we do several things. I make a picnic lunch and we go to our favorite park. I think that we have as much fun as if we had gone to Disneyland! We also go swimming at our local pool as it is free of charge. I also take our children to the library in the afternoons as they have a wonderful reading program where parents read to all the children. We take turn volunteering and I love seeing how the children get so involved in the stories. It might be silly but going to the library is a big treat for all of us. I love how my children look at all of the thousands of books and think that they can read as many of them as they want and all of them are free!

Our favorite way to keep cool in the summer is the neighborhood splash fountain. We take a picnic, invite some friends, and make a day of it. Since it also has a playground, everyone stays happy for hours

We stay home, my two year old has a little swimming pool which we use on the covered porch – we avoid the park because we live in the desert….we have a slide and it sounds silly but he loves climbing up and down the ladder – me right behind him of course. Mostly we play inside we’re its cooler and mix him using his cars and rockers and little exercisetoy that is attached to the tv for learning games with quiet learning games – he has a Melissa and Doug bear puzzle he loves – he loves changing their expressions and each of the family has five outfits he can mix and match, stringing kits and magnetic toys also interest him – under my supervision – as his magnetic dollhouse and airport has small pieces.
The really nice thing is my husband’s mom will buy us tickets to visit and she has a lake in her community – and this visit costs us nothing.

I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old.. Nothing like the good old fashioned swing and sandbox to occupy two kiddos, and Praise the Lord for Vacation Bible School at our church.

I love the state park beach for an inexpensive change to the day to day pool trips that I take with my 4 little gals during the hot summer months. They love the lake and I love that it isn’t as far as a “real” beach.

Our favorite fun and frugal summer activity is going to our neighborhood pool. My husband lost his job 3 months ago so we trying to do fun things at home this summer. Play in the sprinklers, sidewalk chalk, make frozen popsicles, go swimming and even have a picnic outside.
Ann
We frequent our neighborhood pool and we also go to the library several times a week for new books and dvd’s…

Second entry-we stay cool by freezing juice boxes and having 100% fruit juice slushies as they melt. They’re loud and annoying (read: fun for the kids) and yummY! We are blessed to be close to the beach, so we go there some days, but are hoping to explore the Norfolk Botanical Gardens this year too, as another reader mentioned :-) ayyogurt at yahoo dot com
