Our favorite fun and frugal summer activity is taking walks and hikes at local parks. We also received a year pass to the aquarium for the cost of a 1 day admission so we’ll be enjoying that all summer.

We love taking the kids to the amusement park. We don’t live around the beach or have a pool so they get to cool off going down the huge water slides and dry off on the rides.

We play at the fountains and the pools in the morning…the kids are usually wiped out by nap time, which gives Mommy a break!

I am already an RSS subscriber and keep my Google Reader up all day at work. We have a really great Zoo where I live and we get a membership every year. It is $70 for our family of 5 and is good for a year based on the month you purchase/renew in. We pack up the cooler with our lunch and spend the day. We also are members of our YMCA and they too have a great pool/waterpark to enjoy. Aside from that, we go to our local parks for my 11 year olds to enjoy while our 17 month old runs around exploring. We have an art museum that is “free” (any donation accepted) and it is a great way to keep them learning over the summer.

My kids are ages 4, 2, and 1, so our favorite fun thing to do is to just splash around in the kiddie pool in the backyard! It is FREE and they have so much fun! Then we like to finish off the day by having a nice cold scoop of ice cream after dinner!

Our best summer activity is the reading contests the local library runs. My son has to read a certain number of books, and then is rewarded with lots of free tickets and coupons to local attractions!

I love have BBQ’s with friends. It is MUCH cheaper then going out with friends!! and the kids enjoy running around!

we do ALOT of playdates at various parks and swimming pools. I signed up for the FREE bowling and used it for the first time last week and it was FABULOUS…….even after paying for the shoes. The free movies is another GREAT adventure, my kids are also enjoying the garden, pulling weeds, watering, and picking the harvest. This is our first summer living on a tighter budget, so it’s been interesting finding FREE things to do and sharing them with my friends.

I have two places that I like to take the kids. If the weather is decent, then we go to the park. I pack snacks and bring cold water and sippy cups so that we don’t have to buy anything. If it is too hot, we will often go to the library. Our library has puppet shows, and reading time, and other activities off and on during the summer. And we don’t have to spend a dime, not even on gas, because we walk!

We freeze juices and water bottles the night before heading to the park or pool. That way we always have plenty of nice cold drinks without having to carry around a cooler!

We make our own popcicles, snow cones and flavored ice cubes! All are easy fun and a cheap ways to make summer days special :)
