I love your site and read it through Google Reader every day! My favorite frugal summer activity is going to the beach. We’re residents of the town so we park free, bring brown bag lunches and lots of toys for the tot!

Anything with water is considered fun in my house! Sprinkler, spray bottle, kiddie pool, a bucket…you name it.

It’s more for toddlers…but when it’s warm outside but not warm enough for the pool (we’re in the midwest so this is the first half of summer) – I get lots of different colored sponges and cut them into shapes and put them into different containers (cleaned out old cool whip containers, plastic salsa containers, etc). The kids love to figure out how to get each lid off and then they love dumping the water out. When they show me the sponges – I ask them about the shape and color. It’s a HUGE hit at our house!

My kids love it when I use the hose to spray them while they jump on the trampoline. They call it “making a rainstorm”.

We love to swim. Plenty of our friends have pools and invite us for a free fun day! This year we got a summer pass to our community pool. Only $100 and we go pretty much every day. Not too bad for four months of fun.

Kids love mud.. one time we bought a bag of dirt from home depot and let them play with the hose in it!.. Made for awesome pictures too!

We go for lots of walks in the summer. We try to go early in the morning and in the evenings to avoid the heat! It’s a great way to get some exercise, spend time as a family and get to know our neighbors. We also work on vocab with our two year old by playing “what’s that?” all the way around the block!

One of our favorite summer activities is to pack a lunch and go have a picnic with daddy over his lunch break. The kids love to get out of the house and see Daddy during the day, and so do I.

I have the great pleasure of having my grandaughter spend the summer with me since we have moved clear across the country from her, Is saw her everyday of her life until we moved to ohio. But this year I have two more beautiful grandaughter total now and counting is 3. I get two of them this year! But the most fun she has when were not on our boat is just being outside with the hose and she digs holes and fills them with water hours of fun for her and hours of fun for me watching ;) She love riding in the wagon behind grandpa’s quad going back and forth doing errands around the property. We pretty much spend the whole summer outside just finding things to do in our own backyard

In the summer time we just love to visit the local children’s garden. Lots of cool and shady spots and beautiful gardens with a fairy tale/nursery rhyme theme. Also, they have a neat lil area where you walk on certain stones which activates sprinklers. Cool!
Tickets are only $4 and there’s a picnic spot to bring your own lunch. Our local parenting magazine has kids passes that get the kids in free all summer!

We love to make our own popcicles using fun containers! We use fruit juice and sometimes real pieces of fruit and insert a plastic spoon for a handle if we don’t have any popcicle sticks around. Sometimes we let them time how long it takes to freeze…It’s cheap, fun and, hey, teaches them some science at the same time!

I love having ice cream social playdates. Save those coupons and buy a couple of boxes of popsicles. The kids have a blast and the moms get a chance to chat.
