Proof That They’re Not All Bad

December 28, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 10 Comments

lance_crackersIn light of my husband’s recurring layoffs, I’ve been tempted to think that companies no longer care about their employees and their situations.

However, let me share with you one story that I read this morning that renewed my faith that there are still some employers that value their workers. Please take a moment to read this wonderful story about Lance, Inc. purchasing the Archway cookie factory in Ashland, OH. I attended Ashland University, and the university and the cookie factory were the lifeblood of this small community, so Lance’s actions mean much more to this town than just the individual workers.

Next time you’re at the grocery store, please make a conscious decision to support these companies if they provide goods for your area. You can also purchase Lance products in their online store. It would be wonderful indeed to see other companies follow their example.

Thanks so much to Jen at Cherry Picker for bringing this story to my attention!

As an aside, I want to thank you all so much for your support over the past few days via your comments and emails. I feel very blessed to have so many wonderful readers, and I’m beyond grateful to those of you that have emailed to let me know you’d be interested in contributing guest posts. I’m sorry I haven’t had a moment to respond to any of you. Not long after we finished our last holiday family gathering yesterday, my 2yo came down with the flu. So far it’s gone through her, my 6yo, and the baby, so I’m just praying that no one else gets it. I’ll get to you all as soon as I can!

I will definately start supporting Lance by buying more of their products and by talking about them to others. We all should, thank you so much for sharing the story. I was touched and amazed that there are still companies out there who care about the people. Just a thought to some of your readers, go to there website and send them a note thanking them and letting them know of your support, I did and I know that they appreciate hearing from us.

Good story! Lance is the only sandwich crackers I buy. So glad to hear the company is making thoughtful decisions that aren’t dictated by bottom line profit margins! I will be sharing this store with all my friends here in TX!

I have loved sugar cookies from Archway since I moved up from the south to Indiana and now living in Ohio I was sad to hear that they closed their doors. Lance IS AWESOME!!!! I got goose bumps reading this story and had to read it to my husband to who is experiencing a 2 week shutdown and multiple layoffs at his job (auto industry). I love these stories!!! I will support Archway still and Lance too! :)

This is an incredible story. I’ve always bought Lance products and Archway products over the years but now I will make a point of buying them more often as a show of my support for a company that considers its workers an integral part of its business.

My husband attended Ashland Seminary, and imagine my surprise when I started watching this story, only to realize it was the same Archway plant on Claremont Ave. that we knew! I am so thrilled for those workers – we went to church with some of them! Kudos to Lance for their care and generosity!

Glad to know there are still some companies with heart left out there, and you bet I’ll be buying more Lance and Archway products. I love the Archway cookies and was sad to hear the company was closing. I’m glad the workers got some unexpected good news, and hopefully orders will pour in and all 300 will be back at work before long.

Hey there — nice to meet you!
