Palm Pre Final Thoughts + Giveaway

March 9, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Deal Seeking Mom on the Palm Pre Plus

The following post is from the Deal Seeking Mom Project Administrator, Mandi Ehman:

Two weeks ago, I told you how I was using the Palm Pre Plus to get organized.

When I first started reviewing the Palm Pre Plus, I wasn’t sure I would keep it once the review was done since there is an additional monthly fee compared to a regular cell phone. However, so many of the features — browsing the internet, accessing my Google contacts & calendars and scheduling our DVR to record a show even when we’re not home — have made everyday tasks more convenient, and while it’s certainly not a necessity, it’s a splurge that we think is worth the cost.

I’ve found myself using these features the most:

:: Camera. I’ve taken a ton of pictures with my phone, and I think my mom appreciates the chance to see more everyday moments with our baby girl — cuddling with momma while I work, her first time in the exersaucer, her first taste of banana, and so on. And the best part is most of these pictures are great quality, so I don’t feel guilty about not pulling out my nicer camera!

:: Internet browsing. Even though we live in the boonies and don’t get a strong enough cell signal to browse the internet at home, my husband has been enabling the WiFi feature to be able to keep tabs on the NFL Scouting Combine and the start of free agency.

:: Calendars & schedules. Last week we unveiled the Deal Seeking Mom calendar to help you keep track of when deals and roundups are posted. I’ve added these calendars to the personal and business calendars I already have synced with my phone so that I can quickly access my entire schedule wherever I am.

:: Music. I mentioned on Twitter that I’ve never had an MP3 before, and it’s true. Two of my girls have MP3 players and my husband has one, but I’ve never had one or even used theirs. However, I do love music, and I always have a music station playing on the TV or my computer. But with the Pandora app, I’m able to listen to the music I want to listen to right from my phone. And unlike an MP3player, I don’t even need speakers!

Verizon Wireless wants to hear from you too! Enter for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card just for answering any of the following questions or responding to someone else’s comment. Enter as many times as you’d like as long as all of your comments are relevant to the conversation:

  • Which feature of the Palm Pre Plus most appeals to you?
  • How would you use it to get or stay organized?
  • How do you use technology for streamlining and organizing your life?

The giveaway will be open until Wednesday, 3/10 at 4 p.m. EST and is open to all U.S. residents 18 years or older. I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment. Winners will be notified by email and listed on my Giveaway Winners page. Winners must respond within 48 hours of notification to claim their prize. Good luck!

Verizon provided me with a Palm Pre Plus at no charge so that I could review its features for the Deal Seeking Mom readers.

So who else has one of these babies? Are there any downsides to the palm?

I’ve gotten so bad as I get older about remembering things and this phone would help me be more organized since I could put everything in there and have reminders!

Being able to set your DVR when your not at home sounds like a feature I’d really appreciate.

I would use the Palm Pre to help me be more organized. I’m a full time mom, homeschool mom and couponer. Having Palm Pre would defintely help me to keep track of my school schedule, coupons websites and/or blogs, appointments, etc.

I find myself purchasing paper schedule books/agendas but hate lugging them around with me. I think having my calendars synced with my phone would really help me get organized.

I could use the Palm Pre to take it with me everywhere without worrying about having to go to the desktop computer and logging in thus wasting my valuable time.

I would love the internet feature. The one thing I disliked about my Palm Treo was that it wasn’t good for the internet.

Yes surfing the web for the hottest coupon deals while shopping is super!

I used to carry a backpack around, even to work so I can take all that I need with me. Now that there are smaller devices available, I can limit the amount of junk I take with me. Simple things like paying bills online or keeping track of finance and to do lists through email, have really been great in terms of streamlining the amount of time I spend on tasks that are not all that fun.

I am doing like Summer said- paper schedule books/agendas gal I am. “I think having my calendars synced with my phone would really help me get organized.” This would be my dream!

I would love to be able to combine my palm with my cell phone – since I have both at the moment, and they work, can’t see upgrading just yet… I do like having my calendar at my finger tips tho

  22. Angie

    March 9, 2010 at 5:23 pm

I don’t have a MP3 player either so having this Palm would allow me to listen to music while on the go (except when driving of course!)

  23. Rhonda

    March 9, 2010 at 5:23 pm

I would use the calendar feature the most. I NEED an electronic calendar to stay organized.

I like the calendar feature and the pictures. The calendar feature would help me stay organized. And, I don’t know anything that can streamline my schedule but I’m all for trying something new!

I would love the picture part of the phone but mostly just to have better and more current technology would be great, my 3 year old phone is a dinosaur now LOL

I personally would use it to mostly access the internet. I like to comparison shop (especially for books and video games on eBay/half.com). I could use it to look up movie times, make sure I wrote down that address correctly, etc. I had the internet on my phone for a month and I miss it so much! In addition, I would love it if it could download apps. That is one feature my phone doesn’t have that I wish it did.

the Pre would help me not miss my favorite shows since I can schedule my DVR on it! Something I did not know from the commercials!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
