Palm Pre Final Thoughts + Giveaway

March 9, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Deal Seeking Mom on the Palm Pre Plus

The following post is from the Deal Seeking Mom Project Administrator, Mandi Ehman:

Two weeks ago, I told you how I was using the Palm Pre Plus to get organized.

When I first started reviewing the Palm Pre Plus, I wasn’t sure I would keep it once the review was done since there is an additional monthly fee compared to a regular cell phone. However, so many of the features — browsing the internet, accessing my Google contacts & calendars and scheduling our DVR to record a show even when we’re not home — have made everyday tasks more convenient, and while it’s certainly not a necessity, it’s a splurge that we think is worth the cost.

I’ve found myself using these features the most:

:: Camera. I’ve taken a ton of pictures with my phone, and I think my mom appreciates the chance to see more everyday moments with our baby girl — cuddling with momma while I work, her first time in the exersaucer, her first taste of banana, and so on. And the best part is most of these pictures are great quality, so I don’t feel guilty about not pulling out my nicer camera!

:: Internet browsing. Even though we live in the boonies and don’t get a strong enough cell signal to browse the internet at home, my husband has been enabling the WiFi feature to be able to keep tabs on the NFL Scouting Combine and the start of free agency.

:: Calendars & schedules. Last week we unveiled the Deal Seeking Mom calendar to help you keep track of when deals and roundups are posted. I’ve added these calendars to the personal and business calendars I already have synced with my phone so that I can quickly access my entire schedule wherever I am.

:: Music. I mentioned on Twitter that I’ve never had an MP3 before, and it’s true. Two of my girls have MP3 players and my husband has one, but I’ve never had one or even used theirs. However, I do love music, and I always have a music station playing on the TV or my computer. But with the Pandora app, I’m able to listen to the music I want to listen to right from my phone. And unlike an MP3player, I don’t even need speakers!

Verizon Wireless wants to hear from you too! Enter for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card just for answering any of the following questions or responding to someone else’s comment. Enter as many times as you’d like as long as all of your comments are relevant to the conversation:

  • Which feature of the Palm Pre Plus most appeals to you?
  • How would you use it to get or stay organized?
  • How do you use technology for streamlining and organizing your life?

The giveaway will be open until Wednesday, 3/10 at 4 p.m. EST and is open to all U.S. residents 18 years or older. I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment. Winners will be notified by email and listed on my Giveaway Winners page. Winners must respond within 48 hours of notification to claim their prize. Good luck!

Verizon provided me with a Palm Pre Plus at no charge so that I could review its features for the Deal Seeking Mom readers.

I don’t have an MP3 player, so I’d love to have music available anytime I want.

I don’t have one either Chrissy. But I do think that’s a great feature to have on a phone.

I would love to use it to access the internet when I’m shopping at Target. So many times I get to the store, and can’t remember exactly what deal was listed on Deal Seeking Mom.

Having many organizational tools in one place is an invaluable asset. I think that the Palm Pre would make this much more streamlined than a larger laptop.

I agree with Chantel and Stephanie, being able to access e-mail away from home would be great.

I’m using a hand-me-down phone from my little sister (and have been for two years!), so I’d probably get a kick out of all the neat features once I figured them out! The most appealing is either the calendar or the music though.

I would take a while to figure it out too! It would be worth it though!

the features sound great-now if only I had someone to sit and walk me through how to use them-that is the part that keeps me from getting one, but it sounds so nice to be organized!

I mostly use my phone to keep me up to date w/ my clipping service thru email and my paypal/ebay apps. I also keep my husband and i pretty much in sync by bluetoothing all calendar appts and such so I dont have to enter it into 2 phones and I dont have to do the “well honey I told you last week…” speech… web browsing is also a key feature, the only time I have a few minutes to browse is when I’m away from my computer! I cant say any features of the palm appealled to me after I played with it in the verizon store. I was due for an upgrade and only even considered the palm because of dsm… But after fiddling with it for over 10 minutes, I quickly realized I didnt have a clue how to operate it, and I’m incredibly tech savy. I’ve never met a phone I couldnt figure out w/i a few mintues until I played with the Palm… I have since settled on the Droid and I couldnt be happier. I’m in the process now of uploading my personal and business coupon inventories into a database including the barcode (why, just cause its neat, and when i sell coupons all i have to do is scan the barcode and remove it from my inventory). This database will save me LOTS of time in the store when I find a great product on sale and pull they “hey I’ve got a coupon for that!” search for 15 minutes… I couldnt live without a smart phone… and after having my droid for 3 days now, I dont see how I EVER lived with out my droid. My omnia seems like last years news compared to this thing. It has a metal case and apps that entertain my kids when they are fussing! What more could you ask for?? How about lightning speed and 10000 apps, got it! and believe me when I say, they REALLY mean it when they say “theres an app for that”

The feature that most appeals to me is that I can be on the go and still be connected to all of my favorite websites … DealSeekingMom being top of the list of course! :D

Wow! I just read Beth’s post above and I’m salivating for the day I’ll be able to get a smart phone! I have what is now a dinosaur of a phone since it’s 3 years old and all it does is make phone calls! This is such an amazing time for technology!

I would love to have a good quality camera like this one which is a multi purpose device, aka my cell phone too! I used to be a big photographer, lugging around my Nikon D70 wherever I went but I’ve gotten tired of the big camera weight. This would be just awesome! :D

I love the idea of something so versatile. I can toss my planner, schedules and business cards and put it all into my phone (which is already an integral part of my life!)

Can somebody point me in the right direction? I tried the Giveaway winners link, but couldn’t find the winner for this. :)

TIA for helping me out. :)

Rhonda she hasn’t announced a winner yet, and I am surprised comments aren’t closed for this since it was supposed to end Wednesday at 4. If I read it right this giveaway is for a 50 gift card, not the phone. By a lot of comments I think people thought it was for the phone, lol. When you look for the winner make sure you look for the gift card listing. hth
