A few weeks ago I shared that my family was participating in the Listerine Oral Care Challenge to promote better oral care habits for the entire family. I have to admit this was a bit of a tough challenge for us, but we made a lot of progress overall.
It seemed like the mouth rinse was a big hit and the easiest habit to maintain — as evidenced by the additional cleaning of the faucets, mirrors and sinks I’ve had to do in the bathrooms. But that’s a small price to pay for a healthier mouth! The flossing was a tougher sell because none of my kids are really old enough and coordinated enough to do it themselves, yet they’re old enough that they really don’t want Mom messing around in their mouths too much. We’ll continue to work on this area…
But the biggest success of the challenge was just getting them focused on brushing more often and being more aware of the concept of better oral care habits as a whole and why they’re important. The Listerine Oral Care Challenge gave us the tools to talk about why brushing alone isn’t enough and inspired them to want to take better care in brushing, rinsing and flossing — ensuring that they maintain these gorgeous smiles that I love!

The habits we instill in our children while they’re still young and usually habits that will last a lifetime, so I’d encourage you all to give this a try with your kids. Listerine has some useful information and printable tip sheets available that I would definitely recommend checking out!

My son’s favorite time of day is when we brush our teeth. He has loved it since we started, which is when he got his first tooth! He is only 1! As soon as he sees his tooth brush he gets so excited. He even leans forward so we can get all the way to the back gums! LOL

After a bad trip to the dentist and having to have to go to the surgicenter to get work done, I now tell them if they don’t brush their teeth they will have to go to the bad dentist instead of the good dentist that gives them little prizes. It works everytime.

I already like you on fb. But, I will tell you that letting the kids pick their own toothpaste, using an eggtimer in the bathroom, and making brushing an entire family affair espcially at bedtime helps our family do better with our brushing habits!

We began brushing our kids’ teeth even before they came in. They love looking into our stockpile of toothbrushes to pick their own and they get to choose which kind of toothpaste they want. (They have to share one but they each get a turn choosing when it is time for a new tube). They have a routine every morning and evening. They also get to choose a song to listen to as they are brushing and have to brush until the song is over. Again, they each take a turn choosing a song.

I let my daughter put stickers on her toothbrush !

My kids use the blue listerine with their choices of toothbrushes which they love especially when there mouths are blue first. We then make a game out of it to see who can get all the blue off their teeth the fastest.

The first one that starts to brush their teeth first before bed frys their bedtime store first.

I try to make brushing, flossing and using flouride rinse fun. We count to 100 for brushing and to 30 when swishing flouride rinse to make sure we do it long enough. We talk to the teeth during flossing (my oldest has crowded teeth and its hard to get the floss between them). They love it and now can count really well too. Letting them pick their own toothbrushes, paste and rinse colors/flavors helps too!
