A few weeks ago I shared that my family was participating in the Listerine Oral Care Challenge to promote better oral care habits for the entire family. I have to admit this was a bit of a tough challenge for us, but we made a lot of progress overall.
It seemed like the mouth rinse was a big hit and the easiest habit to maintain — as evidenced by the additional cleaning of the faucets, mirrors and sinks I’ve had to do in the bathrooms. But that’s a small price to pay for a healthier mouth! The flossing was a tougher sell because none of my kids are really old enough and coordinated enough to do it themselves, yet they’re old enough that they really don’t want Mom messing around in their mouths too much. We’ll continue to work on this area…
But the biggest success of the challenge was just getting them focused on brushing more often and being more aware of the concept of better oral care habits as a whole and why they’re important. The Listerine Oral Care Challenge gave us the tools to talk about why brushing alone isn’t enough and inspired them to want to take better care in brushing, rinsing and flossing — ensuring that they maintain these gorgeous smiles that I love!

The habits we instill in our children while they’re still young and usually habits that will last a lifetime, so I’d encourage you all to give this a try with your kids. Listerine has some useful information and printable tip sheets available that I would definitely recommend checking out!

The best example does start with the parents. My youngest sees us brush and mouthwash and she wants to do the same.

I encourage my kids (ages 11, 9 and 5) to keep health mouths! I have spoke with them about what they eat will stay on their teeth and cause cavities and bad breathe. They understand the importance of a healthy mouth. They LOVE the moutwash that turns the placque different colors and then they brush it off. They’re boys, so that’s “cool” to them. it works!

My best tip for oral care is to have a routine, and get your children in the routine at an early age.

We get the fun animal flossers so that it’s a little bit more enjoyable and they aren’t trying to use a long piece of floss.

My kids love to brush their teeth!

We use the floss sticks with my kiddos to change up the flossing routine. Even the 2 year old gets a kick out of using them.

Since my 8 year old got braces a few months ago & had to “step-up” his oral care, we have all made a change for the better. Phineas and Ferb listerine has been great for the boys! But we go through tons of it! I would love to win this so we can stock up!!

I am subscribed at FB. Early intervention and teaching at a young age by example are most useful for long lasting dental care. Regular dental visits too are excellent pro dental health.

I let my kids pick their own toothbrushes and favorite flavor of toothpaste. It seems to make brushing more fun. :)
