A few weeks ago I shared that my family was participating in the Listerine Oral Care Challenge to promote better oral care habits for the entire family. I have to admit this was a bit of a tough challenge for us, but we made a lot of progress overall.
It seemed like the mouth rinse was a big hit and the easiest habit to maintain — as evidenced by the additional cleaning of the faucets, mirrors and sinks I’ve had to do in the bathrooms. But that’s a small price to pay for a healthier mouth! The flossing was a tougher sell because none of my kids are really old enough and coordinated enough to do it themselves, yet they’re old enough that they really don’t want Mom messing around in their mouths too much. We’ll continue to work on this area…
But the biggest success of the challenge was just getting them focused on brushing more often and being more aware of the concept of better oral care habits as a whole and why they’re important. The Listerine Oral Care Challenge gave us the tools to talk about why brushing alone isn’t enough and inspired them to want to take better care in brushing, rinsing and flossing — ensuring that they maintain these gorgeous smiles that I love!

The habits we instill in our children while they’re still young and usually habits that will last a lifetime, so I’d encourage you all to give this a try with your kids. Listerine has some useful information and printable tip sheets available that I would definitely recommend checking out!

1st we have to admit that brushing your teeth is just boring. Some nights I put on music and dance around while brushing/flossing which makes my daughter join in and we both giggle. Also good eating habits help a lot.

Just in case the first one does not count. I live alone and I always brush. I worked for Washington Dental Ins. for almost 30 years and I know the importance of keeping your teeth healthy.

i talked about getting all of the plaque bugs with my boy when he started to understand that. That sugary foods & even all foods give us little tiny plaque bugs on our teeth that cause cavities & we need to brush those bugs away! :)

I ilke to pick out products for my granddaughter to use that are kid-friendly and taste good. If kids don’t like the taste of the mouthwash or toothpaste, they won’t want to brush. Also, set up a routine at bedtime.

I tell my daughter that she’ll have a beautiful princess smile if she takes cares of her teeth

My son was a challenge to get him to brush his teeth but after several times to the dentist they sat him down and explained what would happen if he didn’t get good care. It worked!

We have a timer in the bathroom and my kiddos think it’s the greatest! I finding switching things up every once in awhile helpful too! (new toothbrush, flosses, etc.)
