Kroger Shopping Trip: Spent $43.49 Saved $102.05

August 24, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 19 Comments

I hit Kroger on Sunday to take advantage of the Add Up The Savings Event and stock up on some items we were getting low on. I did four separate transactions to take advantage of some Catalina deals, and I walked away with $2.50 to use on my next order.

Here’s what I scored:

  • 2 Nature Valley Granola Bars
  • 4 Nature Valley Granola Thins
  • 1 Nature Valley Nut Clusters
  • 8 Better Oats Oatmeal
  • 12 Progresso Soups
  • 3 Muir Glen Organic Tomato Paste
  • 20 Luna Bars
  • 6 Sunny D Juices
  • 1 Welch’s Grape Jelly
  • 2 Pints Blueberries (not so much of a deal at 2/$4, but I love fresh blueberries!)
  • 1 Cantaloupe
  • 2 Gallons Milk

I used coupons from the Deal Seeking Mom Coupon Database on all of the items except for the milk and produce. All in all it wasn’t one of my finest trips, but I still have plenty of room in my budget to tackle the Mega Event deals this week to round up some other items we’re getting low on!

The Luna Bars were 10/$10, and I had a number of $0.50/1 coupons that doubled to make them free. Now that I think about it, I guess I got those in a package of organic promotional items I got in the mail, but I see that there are some listed on eBay right now. I believe they’re still on sale this week for the Mega Event.

    Question for you about Kroger:
Is your Kroger doubling every coupon below .50? Mine only doubles the first couple of like kinds per transaction.
Also, Kroger rejected 3 of my coupons last week because they didn’t have the small bar code (which is above the large bar code on some coupons). Have you heard of this?

Perhaps it’s just a challenge with my particular Kroger. I’m all for having coupon policies, but come on! They should share them with us before we get to the register!

My Kroger doubles everything up to $0.99, but Meijer has the two like coupons policy here. It’s one of the reasons I don’t shop there more frequently — it makes it hard to stock up for our large family.

I’ve not heard of coupons being rejected for not having the smaller bar code. It’s my understanding that that bar code is still not widely used. I know I almost always see cashiers covering it up to scan the larger bar code.

Sure you can, Nikki! It just takes a little quick thinking when you get to the store if something is out of stock. I ended up putting back a number of items that were priced higher here than Renae’s matchups, and I had to cut a few items from my list that they were out of. So I then I had to recalculate to make sure I had 8 items to get the $4 off for the Add Up The Savings deal.

Robyn, I posted the Luna deal above. The Progresso didn’t end up being quite the deal I wanted because the Catalina didn’t print. They ended up being about $0.87 each for 4 on one transaction and $0.31 each for 8 on another where I used a Catalina earned from another transaction to reduce the price.

Where did you find coupons for the Luna Bars? I have been looking for some but I can’t find any. I didn’t see any listed in the database either.

That is a great deal! Healthier choices also. Usually you open up the adds and it is nothing but junk food on sale.

SoBe was one of the items I had to cut from my list. I had planned to stock up again, but my store was completely wiped out except for the Cherimoya ones which I don’t like. :( Glad you were able to stock up though!

I was thinking… “where’s the SoBe’s?” when I saw your picture. Now I know. I can’t believe they were out. My Kroger had them on the shelf and on an end cap. They limited me, dang it, to only using 5 B1G1 coupons. I got my usual, black and blue berry and strawberry dragonfruit :-), every day I went except Saturday they were out of black and blue berry and I got the Strawberry Daiquiri flavored drinks. Sorry you didn’t get ANY!!!

I don’t shop at Kroger very much anymore and when I do I drive the extra distence to the one in the next town. My Kroger has a new store manager who is a moron when it comes to coupons. He believes transaction and purcahse are the same thing, then he will only allow one catalina (of any kind, just one printed catalina be it OYNO or general coupon) per transaction. I found this out when I had like 20 bucks in OYNO coupons that were all from different items no place did it say one per transaction. First I corrected the cashier then the manager, then the store manager was all mean when he came over, flipped one of my catalinas over and went “See lady one per purchase” I tried to explain to him it meant one per item…. but his comment was “Sorry Lady” and walked off. WHen I called corporate to complain I was told that complaints really cant be made on store managers because its there job to imput the policies and complaints are just sent to them. I was not a happy camper.

      Tara…
King Sooper now since we move to another town, WILL NOT accept doubling ANY COUPONS at all. One coupon per item, PERIOD. I have been harassed at Kings twice now for even trying and had to even call corprate. King Soopers differ from store to store and depends on what the store manager will allow. I used to safe this much EVERY time I shopped Kings. I dont know what to do about this because even the corprate office said they WILL have allllll the stores change the policys and soon. Just fyi….
