Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.
Would you like to take the $50 Walmart Back-To-School Challenge?

I saved the supply list from last year and when those items went on clearance after school started I bought them. So this year I only had to buy a few items that they added to this years list. I’ll do the same when it all goes on clearance in a few weeks. I just stick all the stuff in a big tote in my laundry room.

I started early this summer buying things that were on sale and at CVS with supplies free after ecbs. TY

I hit the resale shops. One of the resale shop has a special on Mondays where everything with a specific colored tag is $0.99. I have gotten some great things. I also pick up the required 3 ring notebooks at garage sales or the resales. Instead of paying $8 for a 2″ binder I pay between 25 to 99 cents.

My biggest tip that I can offer for back to school shopping would definitely be to go to consignment shops but also to keep your eyes on the look-out for bargain sale and coupons. They really help out in the end. Thanks for a great giveaway :)

My biggest tip is to get on the email list of your favorite stores. This will get you their latest sales information. Once you know which stores have what you need try to find coupons so you shop the sale and use a coupon on top of that. It takes a little while to get organized but once you do you know exactly where to go and can check items off your list.

we always start our shopping at wal mart

I think we are almost ready this year! My last purchase will be more of our Topricinkids pain cream bc I KNOW how tired our kiddos will be starting back into the school routine! My tip that I figured out this year was to shop at Kohls (which I never can afford) on the clearance racks when they offer a percentage off. BUT, we learned to do this when they offer the Kohls bucks back too- so we were able to get their shoes almost free. Worked for us this year :) smilinggreenmom *tweet me!

I have always shopped ahead of time. I will buy the clothes a year ahead when they are clearancing them out. We hardly every pay full price for our kids clothes this way.

Using coupons on school supplies in a must. And getting school supplies for free with extra care bucks from CVS is really nice!

I love free school supplies at CVS and Walgreens! And for clothes I shop clearance sales to stock up for next year.
Angela
CVS free supplies of course!!! Also Walgreens with their 19-cents supplies helped a lot. I hit the great sales at JCPenney with $15 off $75 coupon and split my transactions into 4 to save $60!
Samantha
Buying enough school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils ect.) now to get you through until they do the next back to school sale.
Erma
I always look for sales and coupons to use for my kids back to school shopping.
Renski
Due to the economy, our Back-to-School budget has be cut. My tip is to develop a list of what you NEED , then shop the sales.
Pamela S
I always buy the loss leader school supplies and stock up for the whole year. Then after school starts when they mark the stuff to 75-90% off, I buy items for the next school year and put them away until then.
Cujo
Save on lunches by packing them. Have your child participate in the decisions so they’ll be more likley to eat these lunches. :-) GLTA!

Even though I like to save money, I can’t justify shopping at Walmart where the violations of child labor laws in their factories ( sweatshops ) overseas have been well documented . It seems hypocritical for me to buy my children’s clothes at a place that turns a blind eye to where and how their clothes are being produced so cheaply. Obviously, I don’t want to win the gift card from Walmart!
Renee
I am cutting back this year by just buying less. I will purchase more as the school year goes and the need arises.
martha
I shop sales, love clearance racks at WM. and I only buy if I can thing that won’t go out of style. no printed jeans, b/c they are in at the moment, b/c in a month, they may not be. Just b/c it has your favorite tv show on it, doesn’t mean dd will love it next month. I also buy alot of mix and match stuff.
we have a tax free weekend here before school starts. but I buy most of the school supplies before then, b/c they are cheaper then waiting for that weekend.
also, dd takes her lunch. and instead of buying all those little prepacked snacks and all, I buy a big box of what ever, and bag them myself.
Chrissy
Shop in advance especially with school supplies. You can get them for pennies if you watch sales throughout the summer instead of waiting and doing it all at once.
Chrissy
I subscribe already! Thanks.

I am always looking for a good deal. I shop ahead buying items on clearance for the next year. I have my little guys summer wardrobe for next year and I think I got it for less then $30 buy buying up tops and bottoms for about $2 a piece. Oh and I use a lot of coupons. Saving on overage 65% off my groceries makes a pretty cheap lunch.

Hand me downs, hand me downs… My sister and I trade sizes according to what each of us need and the kids all have “new” clothing!
