Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

My best money saving tip is to look at the Sunday Flyers for each store and pick up what’s on sale each Sunday. I do this for a few Sundays each year, and I get a bunch of school supplies for the entire school year, at a very reasonable cost. I’ve gotten rulers and pencils for a penny, spiral notebooks for a nickle, binders, crayons, markers for .50, etc. Can’t beat those back to school supply sales.
Thanks so much.

My tip for saving money on back to school essentials would be to watch for the stuff to go on sale during the summer. And, the drugstores and office supply stores run awesome deals to help you get school supplies for free or cheap. And, you can fill in with your local big box sales for any school supplies you can’t find otherwise.

My best savings strategy? Walmart, Walmart, Walmart!!
Thanks.

I homeschool, which cuts down the peer pressure on what to wear every day. In the summer I yardsale and shop store sales for clothes and supplies. Love Walmart!

My daughter needs some new school clothes. It would be great to live up to the challenge and get a $50.00 gift card for Walmart. My daughter loves some of the clothing lines that Walmart carries and we do a lot of shopping there anyway. Thanks

I shop the sales. I do not buy all in one place. They lure you in with super deals and then think that I will buy my whole school supply list there, and I cannot do that! I buy each item where it is on sale. I also reuse supplies from the previous year that were not used or in good shape from the previous year.

I gave my son a budget amount for clothes, shoes and supplies and let him shop for back to school. It’s amazing how well he’s done so far – and he’s proud of his purchases, too.

To save money (and the environment) I purchase reusable sandwich bags this year for everyone in my household. With 5 of us that is at least 10 plastic bags that we DON’T use every day. Multiply that by the number of days in a school year and that is a LOT of bags!

I try to buy at the end of each season for the next year. I hit the clearance racks with extra % off. I try to buy a little big so they have room for growth. This helps stretch the money. Wal-Mart has great quality clothing for the whole family. Thanks for a great site!!

I always check the clearance racks throughout the year and when I find something nice on sale, I buy it sometimes even a size or two bigger and put it up for school. I also join all the rewards programs I can which can help you get some really great deals.
Cindy
I shop clearance and really good sales throughout the year so I never have to pay full price for anything!!

Shop when the stores first put out the school supplies, they are usually on sale.
Mary
I generally wait for special sales from department stores that give an extra $10 to $15 off a $50 to $75 purchase. Then I use my credit card that rewards me with points or cash back. Then I can sometimes shop using the gift card rewards. Plus I only buy the sale or clearance items. Thanks for the great ideas.

This year, we’re reusing school supplies and collecting samples (free pencils from banks, etc.).
Amy
This year I recycled many school supply items from last year that were reusable and I always utilize sales, coupons and stock up for the next year too :) All my previous years of stocking up on crayons & pencils really helped this year.
Becky
I’ve gotten great deals at CVS with the ECBs, and I’ve also scored some of the 1 cent items at Office Max and Staples!

This year I went through last years items and see what can be recycled and used again. In past years we would just head to Target and buy everything new. For some odd reason I just head to Target when the glue sticks are .20 a piece. LOL.
