Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.
Would you like to take the $50 Walmart Back-To-School Challenge?

My best school shopping tip is to hint to my mother-in-law what we need and wha’la! It arrives via USPS! :)

I usually wait a few more weeks until lots of back to school clothes and supplies go on clearance. It’s amazing how quickly the stores want to get rid of everything and get the halloween stuff on the shelves.

I try to combine coupons with sales and stock up on things that I’ll need through the year.
My sister goes a little farther. Her kids start the year with last years’ backpacks and lunch boxes and, if needed, they get new ones once this year’s go on clearance at Target.

Best saving advice: get extra supplies now when the sales are going on. During the school year, the same notebook you will spend 10 cents on now will be more than $1. I keep a box of supplies….this year, I may not even need to go shopping for supplies because of all my extras!

Shop for great deals all year long so that back-to-school shopping isn’t a big expense all at once. Look for deals in unexpected places, too, like garage sales or thrift stores.

I actually shop at Walmart for many of my daughter’s back-to-school clothing items. They’re very inexpensive. Being a preschooler, she tends to get a little messy while at school. But with the prices I pay at Walmart, it’s not the end of the world if something gets paint on it!

Sales and coupons and hand me downs. With four boys you have to accept the hand me downs.

I learned how to use a sewing machine this summer, and now I can make some of my kidlets’ clothes!! I’ve made t-shirts and simple shirts, and I’ve sewn some skirts! Thank you for the contest!

I saved a lot with using the posts DealSeekingMom has posted, loves it! I try to check a couple times a day for new deals on supplies or food and etc. I’ve gotten a lot of free stuff for school like highlighters and pens. And a lot of good deals on household items that are discounted more then 50% off. I try to condense all my super saver shopping into 1 trip, saves gas, and is wayyyyy to much fun! lol :]
Amanda
This would be such a big help around here for new clothes shopping!

My tip is to start buying your school supplies earlier in the summer whenever they go on sale instead of buying everything in one trip when only some things might be on sale. CVS has been having great stuff free after ECB, so I’ve been getting them every week. Staples has also been running great savings over the summer.
Emily
My favorite back to school savings strategy is picking up free school supplies at CVS each week! Not only do I have stuff for my son, I am able to donate all of the extras to families in need!
Crystal
I take advantage of the drug stores freebies, and coupons, coupons, coupons with ad matches :)
Thanks for all the info!!!

My favorite BTS shopping trip is to recycle and reuse.. at the end of the school year I put in a bag all the school supplies that are in good condition still and when BTS time comes I pull out some of what we need from there.
Karen
I usually wait for the extra 30% off coupon at Kohl’s before I go shopping, then I look through the clearance racks for t-shirts. I have bought some jeans at Walmart. I got lots of free school supplies this year by going to free events in our community.

My kids are not quite to “Back to School” age, but my oldest will start kindergarten next year. I’ll be hitting Target’s clearance for back to school supplies to put up for then!
