August 17, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

Tune in all week for hot Back-To-School Giveaways. I’ve got some great prizes for the kids, with a couple of special prizes to pamper mom!!! Look for a new 48-hour giveaway each morning and each afternoon, and be sure to check out all of the current giveaways for other great prizes!

This post wasn’t included in the email that went out to subscribers today, so I’m republishing it and extending the giveaway for 12 hours to make sure everyone has a chance to enter!

Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!

Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Walmart Dress Your Student Challenge

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

To save money on back to school we save supplies from the previous school year, only buy what we need, and purchase what we do need during the great back to school sales!

I wait for sales/clearance at big name stores and coupons on top of it…then I check back the next week to see if things are further discounted and take in my receipt and get a price adjustment! I saved $80++ once! It was awesome!

My best back to school savings strategy is buy only what you need. Wait to get some supplies until after school starts so you know exactly what your child needs and dont end up buying things they wont use during the year.

I save money on back to school supplies by buying them at Wal-Mart. Can’t beat the prices anywhere!

  20. Denise

    August 17, 2009 at 2:28 am

I buy throughout the year at all the sales. I try to never pay full price since they go through them so fast.

I buy off season so I am not hit at once with BTS shopping. It really saves me a lot of money and usually it is still warm here, so I don’t have to think about fall clothes until late October, which is when the clothes are dirt cheap again.

i buy during the off season. i found school items maked down to just pennies once school was back in session. as for clothes, i ONLY shop the clearance racks. my son grows so fast, i cant afford to buy the full priced items.

One good way to save on back-to-school is to be on the lookout for good sales year round.

  24. Nancy

    August 17, 2009 at 3:28 am

I watch for sales and clearance items and make a list of the things that we need so that we don’t buy more than what we need.

    August 17, 2009 at 3:39 am

I stock up on clearence and also when there is double coupons. I have cut back this year on a lot of items though. It’s not easy with five kids but i go to garage sales wherever there’s a deal i’m there

  26. Julie

    August 17, 2009 at 3:39 am

I stock up on supplies when the *other* stores run their supplies for pennies deals. Anything that is left we always pick up at Walmart.

Buy polo shirts in every color you can find. Wash them properly and they will last at least one school year, usually two and will still be good enough for play wear or “dirty” wear for chores. They last much better than tee shirts.

My kids will be bringing there lunch from home if they like it or not :)

My back to school tip is hit the clearance racks..I try to do that every year.. My budget was cut out by $40 this year. I just bought the non name brand school supplies and shopped at wal-mart for some of the school clothes.

stock up with enough supplies while they are on sale at walmart- I buy enough to last through the summer and more of the next year- things that are 20 cents now turn into 1.00 later..think of school projects, craft projects, holiday cards, etc
