Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

My best back-to-school savings tip would have to be ‘Hit the tax-free weekend for clothes’. I live in Texas & our tax-free weekend is coming up & I plan on getting the clothes then. Also, watch the store ads to get the supplies real cheap, 25 cent paper sure beats paying $2 for a pack of filler paper, even during the tax-free weekend.

My best tip is to start early. Stores rely on people waiting until the last minute and jack prices up the week or so before school starts. And especially the week AFTER school starts. Never ever wait that long.

I have a tote for each kid in the garage and I pick up clearanced items all year and stick them in the tote. So when it is time, I normally don’t have to buy much.

The best way to save money for back to school in Virginia is to shop during the tax free weekend. The tax itself only saves you 5% but so many stores have sales during that weekend that the savings REALLY ADD UP!

I usually only shop clearance and that’s all year long. I go to yard sales in the summer and I also shop at thrift stores. You can always find nice clothes there.

Now that my kids are older it’s too hard to guess their size for the next season and get last season deals. But I shop clearance racks anyway, and also visit local resale stores to save money on school clothes! I resell them the next season and reinvest that money in their new sizes.

It seems like a lot of the best sale prices come AFTER the year has already started. So what I’ve learned to do is buy a bunch of school supplies and put them away for the next year. So this year when money is tight, I’ll probably just hold off buying anything at all.

I subscribed with google reader.

I buy a lot of my 6 year old’s clothes at WalMart. Better prices than what’s at resale shops. The rest I buy at Target, Old Navy and Kohl’s on the sale racks. Luckily I have a boy who doesn’t much care what kind of clothes he wears. Not looking forward to his teen years.

I shop the sales and Rugged Warehouse is a great place to shop for name brand clothes!!

My son likes “lunchables” but they are expensive and he never eats the cheese. I now make his own customized lunchables and he is thrilled!

I buy everything a year in advance on clearance, that way it’s really affordable!

My best tip is to shop the end-of-the-season sales all year round stocking up on clothes in the next size up for the kids.
Wendy
I get my kids’ school supply list early & buy things little by little as they go on sale. Not only do the sales save me money, but spreading the expense over a longer period of time sure helps the old budget!

My back to school tip is to watch for the $1 clearance racks at Walmart, I have 3 girls and can get most of their clothes on there. I also volunteer at our local Thrift Store and get first pick and a huge discount there.

Since the list of supplies for my kids school doesn’t change much I buy at the end of season clearence sales and stock up for running out during the year and next years supplies. I keep them in a bin and when the kids need extra pencils, I have them. When school time rolls around I just pull out my bin and stock them up! Then we begin all over again!
