August 17, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

Tune in all week for hot Back-To-School Giveaways. I’ve got some great prizes for the kids, with a couple of special prizes to pamper mom!!! Look for a new 48-hour giveaway each morning and each afternoon, and be sure to check out all of the current giveaways for other great prizes!

This post wasn’t included in the email that went out to subscribers today, so I’m republishing it and extending the giveaway for 12 hours to make sure everyone has a chance to enter!

Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!

Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Walmart Dress Your Student Challenge

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

Would you like to take the $50 Walmart Back-To-School Challenge?

Pairing coupons with a sale on all the items that you need, shop for stuff at resale shops, yard/garage sales, Mom2Mom sales, and get hand-me-downs from friends and relatives!

I always buy winter jackets in the spring one size bigger….. They are always super cheap and I save about 80% of original prices.

My best back to school saving tip is to not buy new! I am not ashamed to ask for hand-me-downs in clothes from church members and friends, and I always pass along my kids clothes when they are done. Combine hand-me-downs with Christmas presents (pajamas especially) and I basically spend less than $30 a year on each child, including shoes! So $50 at Walmart would provide me with more than a week’s clothes – he he!

My favorite back to school tip is to bring school supplies to meet the teacher night so that they dont have to worry about toting so much on the first day. Then we can concentrate on those embarassing 1st day of school pics I just love to take right in front of the school :)

This is the first year I’ve really paid attention to all of the school supply sales – it really is possible to stock up on a lot for very little expense – I didn’t know that before this year!

Check your home school supplies inventory first! There is a very good likelihood that you still have supplies remaining from previous year, especially if you have more than one child in school.

I am a bargain hunter, so $50 would go a long way! Know where to look – clearance racks, off-price stores, even the dollar store (not for clothes but for a lot of other stuff you might not think of)

DD isn’t in school yet, but I always try to buy things on sale and match coupons.
