Walmart Dress Your Student Challenge

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

My best strategy for saving is to take stock of what you already have. There is no need to go buy pens, glue, paper, etc…if you have some stuff away in the office or play room. It saves money and its Green.
    Thanks for the entry!

Who says “back to school shopping” has to be done before school starts? There are better deals to be had in late September/October when the clearance sales happen. Also, each time you enter a store, check the clearance racks–there may be things on super clearance that you don’t need at that moment but will in the next few months so buy it when you get a killer deal instead of waiting to you have to have it and pay full price to get it.

Our strategy for saving money is to scour the ads first. ALso be sure to take advantage of your states tax holiday. And it doesn’t hurt to shop online for some of the pricier things. Generally more competitive prices can be found

I save $ by having a back to school fashion show to see what still fits. We don’t buy much at back to school sale time, because they usually have better sales after school starts.

My back to school savings strategy- Use coupons and only buy stuff that is on sale! Dont give into the temptation of buying the expensive school clothes or the cutest school supplies. I try to stick to generic brands to save too.

I buy clothes on sale and I don’t buy a lot of expensive name brands

I try to buy clothes of the clearance rack year round. I buy a year in advance sizewise and then store it until my son needs it. That way if he sprouts up early, I have the clothes on hand without having to worry about the budget (I just start looking for the next size up next time I’m shopping). And there’s no worry about where to get the next year’s clothes because I’ve been getting them at good prices and putting them aside all year.

For clothes I hit the clearance racks at the end of the season for the next year. For school supplies I checked the list of the cheapest price for items last year and waited for them to hit my target price to buy this year.

Money is tight this year – back to school this year is going to be using what we already have, only adding new items if they are essentials (jackets, shoes, etc.)

I shop the clearance sales. At different times of the year, you can find some really good deals.

Best strategy for BTS has been Old Navy Weekly and catching their 50% off clearance prices and combining w coupon. Their sales can be really good, even without coupons.
