my best savings strategies are hitting the clearance rack at the end of a season/ hitting the consignment shops and garage sales… and as far as lunches- making my own “snack size” bags/ 100 cal packs with ziplocks!

You are on my blog roll and my back to school tip is to garage sale. I know others have said that, but if you wait patiently and if you are not afraid to go to sale after sale not buying anything until you find the right one you can, like me, land almost new gap jeans for $1 for a five year old. I found my oldest sons wardrobe for $25 and it looks like I paid five times that.

Buy your school supplies at Walmart. We went yesterday and bought a bunch of spiral notebooks for $.15 each. You can get a ton of supplies for very little there. Thank you!

I tried to catch all the clearance sections Kohls 80% off right now plus $5 off when you sign up. Target also is the best to get some really great deals I also noticed TJ MAXX has a great selection of clearance and I also shop at the thrift store and get vintage clothing and re-design them I have made some really cute outfits for my self and daughters. I also have used hanes t-shirts to even make bathing suits utube shows you how and it’s very easy and super cute just a way to save and recycle;)

I buy end-of-season and wait for the best deals and just buy ahead I’ve never had to go school clothes shopping, I always have enough already. I do the same with shoes, I have boys so they are mostly in gym shoes anyways. I live close to an outlet mall so when I find great deals on shoes I get them in a couple of sizes and just let my boys grow into them.

Buy clothes on clearance (especially during end of season sales) and store in plastic bins until needed. Even if an item won’t fit your child for a year or two, when the time comes you could have a full wardrobe.

Save by visiting discount stores like Ollies, Big lots, and Gabriel’s for school supplies, snacks for lunches, and clothing. Also try a thrift store for gently used clothing and shoes, also can find some new looking purses there. Make lunches with cheaper but healthier foods such as fresh cut fruit and soy snacks. Pack ice water or kool-aid to save on juice cartons or pouches. You can get reduced bread, lunch cakes at a bakery thrift store, we have one in our area, I hope you have one too.

My two teenage granddaughters have discovered re-sale shops (especially the ones that specialize in teen clothing). They understand that their clothing budget goes a lot further when they can buy jeans and shirts at $3 to $5 each. Luckily their peers aren’t concerned about the latest fashions or designer wear clothing.

A tip that works for me is that I wait to buy school supplies. Our school starts a little later, the second week in September and by then everything is on clearance and I can buy more, which helps alot since I have 4 kids going to school!

I buy clearance, end of the season, and our school resells uniforms for $5, which saves our budget. We also have one designated pair of school shoes that she wears everyday until they are too small (easy because of the uniforms). For lunches, I make double batches of whole grain banana bread or whole grain waffles and freeze them. She has that and fresh fruit for lunch everyday.

Making the kiddos lunches can save lots of money. Also shopping the sales as the season ends is another.

You can save money by making sure to get the store circulars so you can see what is on sale ahead of time and plan your shopping trip.

Coupons…coupons…coupons…did I mention coupons? They can be your best friend. If you combine them with a sale it works out nicely. I do this with all sorts of snack items, juice boxes etc. for school lunches.

I always buy clearance the year before and at the end of the summer. Since I am in GA it stays warm through November. All of the stores put their summer attire on clearance starting in July so I can still get pretty good deals if I need to!

    Thanks for opp! Lissa

I shop consignment shops after season when they have “bag” sales and buy for the next season and early fall. Check local thrift stores for specials like their bag sales or bogo. I always share my finds friends and pass along the smaller stuff. They always give it back and then I pass it to the consignment shop (rather than ebay or craigslist). i then use the money made from last seasons clothes to pay for the bag sale. What they don’t take, I pass the the thrift shop (hangers and all). Works pretty well for me!

I’d love this gift certificate to pass to a friend who lost their jobs and might just be homeless in 2 weeks. I wish i could help more!

I watch for the sales during the month of July and purchase school supplies when they are super cheap! I live in close proximity to several different retailers, so it isn’t a big deal to run out to these stores.
