Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.
Would you like to take the $50 Walmart Back-To-School Challenge?

I tend to buy clothes at the end of each season, on clearance, a size or two bigger. Most of the time, this works out fine, at least for one daughter or the other!

Our back to school strategy is to only buy what we need, when we need it. My stepdaughter usually has a growth spurt in October, so we wait to stock up on winter clothes until then. Otherwise, we could end up with too small clothes!

I’ve cut my budget in other areas to be able to afford back to school shopping…we’ve also been on the lookout for coupons and sales.

I buy school supplies when they are free or really cheap. I always buy extra for later in the school year. I also hit the clothes clearance racks whenever I shop. You never know what you will find.

I saved a lot of money on school supplies shopping at Walmart on tax free weekend. Staples had great sales too. I also bought extras for the middle of the school year.

I shop at the resale shops and buy next years clothing when it is on mark down. I also just try to buy what my kids need. I have boy’s so the clothing options are not as cute. I would be broke if I had a girl. LOL!

The best way to save money for back-t0-school is to seek out the sales! There are so many good sales going on in the month of August… there is no need to pay full price for anything!

I saved money on back to school stuff (most of it was donated to a women’s shelter near us) by doing rebates at Menards. Great deals on everything from backpacks to erasers. I love saving a buck!

my best savings strategies are to follow this blog and i usually buy supplies, clothing and the likes when they go on cleareance the year before. my daughter has been pretty consistent with sizes so that helps but i know for some that can be a gamble that doesn’t pay. also i shop consignment shops. and this year i have made her try on everything just this week and weeded out the too-small items and counted the items she does have so that i know if i really need to buy her something or if she has enough.

I always combine coupons for school supplies with sales! Most of the time you can get great stuff for free or a few pennies!

I printed out my son’s school list last spring and slowly bought items as I found them on closeout, clearance, and mega sale prices. His backpack was packed mid-July ready to go back to school, completely stocked, ready to go, for a fraction of the ‘run out last minute and buy the whole list’ price that friend’s parents pay! ;)

I shop the clearance sales and use coupons.. thanks for the contest.

I shop at consignment shops and sales a lot. Or at retail stores I shop at the end of the season marked downs for the next season. Example will wait till October-November to find summer stuff on clearance. Buy the next size for next summer. [email protected]

I do surveys and save up my points…I can get bookbags, calculators and all kinds of cool stuff for them for school. The only thing it costs me is time. I also shop at the end of the season during clearance time and put the stuff away for the following year.

I’ve gotten the kids involved in our frugal lifestyle – they know that the money saved is going towards something that will benefit the entire family – a vacation, a new TV, etc. They take turns helping me go through the ads to find the deals and coupons for school supplies and clothes.
