Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

My best back to school tip would be to check garage sales all summer long. I start checking right when garage sale season starts. People usual are eager to get rid of winter and fall clothing in the summer. Very often I am able to purchase clothing that still have the tags on them at these garage sales. It has gotten us through a lot of hard times with my 4 boys.

I try to buy everything on sale/clearance. I use coupons and this site.
For my son’s lunch box I’ll buy the reuseable containers for juice and sandwiches, etc.

After spending tons of money on school supplies this year I decided to only buy about half of the supplies that my children are required from there school. I am then going to wait until school supplies are on clearance to purchase the rest of them. I figure that my kids wont need to have all of their supplies at the start of school and I am going to see if I can’t snag the rest on clearance. I am also going to look out for stuff to stock up on now for next year. Also this may seem like a no brainer but seriously sending your child with a homemade lunch for school saves tons of money. I make my own bread (my son is addicted to peanut butter and jelly) and I can always sneak in a couple of healthy things like carrots, apples ect. (school lunch always seems so unhealthy to me). Having my son take his lunch on average only costs about .25-.50 compared to school lunch which is 1.35 per meal where I live.

My favorite way to save is by buying clearance at the end of every season. I never pay full price for kids clothes by always cruising the clearance racks.

Oh, still trying to figure out how to save money when the kids go back to school. But this year my vow is to pack my own snacks in reusable containers instead of buying prepackaged things. Not novel, I know, but something I am going to try and stick with.

My best savings strategy is to only buy clothes that are on sale. A lot of stores are having huge sales lately, so there’s no reason to spend too much on clothes. Also, for school supplies I think the best places to shop are wal-mart and the dollar store. The dollar store has lots of school supplies there, they might not be as fancy, but who needs a fancy notebook? If they don’t have it there then you can’t beat the deals at wal-mart!
