Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

I don’t have a strategy yet since I am new to couponing, but I do compare all the stores’ ads to see who has the best deals on schools supplies!!

I start at the beginning of summer and put them away and get them out for back to school.

I use all the coupons I can. I cut every coupon from sales fliers before we go out shopping and I look over the coupons and check out the sales at each store. We always check out the clearance racks, especially at name brand stores. At Christmas, my girls always ask for gift cards and we go out shopping and hit all the after X-mas sales. I take coupons along as well and the girls always come home with much more than they would have otherwise and it’s stuff I know they will wear. We make a day of it & they always have a great time bargain shopping.
Cassandra
We buy early and buy year round to take advantage of various sales and promotions using coupons and rebates and then stocking up.

My back-to-school shopping is for a college student. We saved $186 by ordering used textbooks from Chegg.com. The site is so user friendly and the service is excellent. I highly recommend Chegg.com!

My daughter is only 2-years-old, but I’ve already begun back-to-school shopping. I’m a single mom and have a limited budget, so my goal is to minimize the cost of these supplies by collecting them throughout the next few years so I have more funds available later for clothes, lunches, sports, field trips, and fun. CVS, Staples, Walmart, Office Max… many stores such as these offer sales or rebates for free or super cheap school supplies. We don’t need these items right away, so I can buy the free items to supplement our stockpile without having to spend more on needed supplies that aren’t on sale. So far, I’ve spent under $5 on supplies and have a collection that would last her through 1st grade (assuming we don’t use some of those glue sticks and crayons before then!). Also, since I’m at the store anyway, I pick up the older-kid items as well (3-5 subject notebooks, protractors, etc), keep a few for around the house, and donate them to United Way’s back-to-school fund. It’s a great way to pay it forward without breaking the budget.

My back-to-school strategy is to start much earlier to find good sales on items that will be needed during the school year. I do not like the last minute panic and pressure which causes us to pay a higher price than we would like.

I have 2 kids that grow out of their clothes so fast. I go through their closets and make a list of things needed. I match the items needed with sales. I also look at the clearance racks and buy multiples when items are at a deep discount. Thanks for the chance.
Mindy
I stop in Goodwills fairly often. You can often find great kids clothes on the off season. I look for hooded sweatshirts in the summer, etc. I’ve found many things that look brand new.

We buy a first day of school special outfit and then just buy clothes as needed. That way there is something new and fun for the first day of school and it doesn’t slam the budget with buying a bunch of clothes at once.
Cori
Have 7 kids to buy clothes for :)

My sales tip is wait for the sales. Walmart always puts thier school supplies on sale in August. Another tip..go ahead pick up some supplies for your home office while the sale in going on.
JULIE
I shop year round for things I know my child might need & watch for sales. I usually find the best deals online
Charity
I take advantage of all of the back to school sales for supplies. I also get my kids clothes on clearance the next size up for the following year. This way, they have stylish new clothes and I paid much less for them.
Teresa
My best tip is not to finish clothes shopping until after school starts! Get a few new things, but there will be sales after the beginning of the school year!
Mary Jo
My tip is to wait until everything is on sale and head out early to that store for the best selection.
laura
I get as many “freebies after rebates” possible and believe me I’ve barely paid out of pocket this year! I love it!
