Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

Back to school strategy – Shop Walmart and shop early! Walmart accepts all coupons, I love the poptarts (with coupons), toaster strudel (with coupons), these are quick and easy breaksfast the kids can grab when you are running late.. and the prices for cereals at walmart with coupons makes for a even greater value! for supplies shop walmart. if you shop about a month before school begins you will get a great selection (which I did) the school supply aisle was empty so I got the best selection at the time. Keep an eye open when they begin to stock the school supply aisle! For clothes, Walmart offers basics at the best price so even if you shop somewhere else you will not get a better price than walmart’s on items like solid tees, undies, and socks! Also, check the clearance racks..great finds there too!

I always shop Walmart for school supplies in July and Aug when they put them on sale for really good prices. I have found over the years that once school starts the prices go up and you will pay 2-3x as much for them I have a file drawer that is all school supplies and fill it for the year. My sister lives overseas and I always get good deals on clothes for her kids and send them to her.

My middle daughter has been a size 4/5 for 3 years now. She is in second grade and the tinyest one. Every year meijer clarences out a bunch of stuff for $2 and $5. I go with my mom and then pay her after she uses her discount card. That way I get my daughters pants dirt cheap incase she finally has that growth spurt. Her 4 year old brother is taller then she is but they are both very skinny.

use your target copons for poptarts, free to go cups for cereal (i got as many as 30- but not at one time) these are great for the kids when you don’t have time to cook. also use your 25% off coupons at old navy – denim sale is $10, and partnered with your 25% = great savings! don’t forget walmart for your 1 subject notebooks @ $.15ea, you can’t beat this! and not to forget the glue, crayons, pencils , markers and colored pencils that they offer at super bargain prices. Don’t forget, Staples had a rebate deal on all backpacks, so it’s almost certain they will repeat this next year!

This year I’ve been saving money by hitting the school supply sales that were months before school started- TONS of freebies at CVS (which also means I’ve had TONS of rainchecks because they always run out too quickly).

I stretch my budget by going thru the supplies sent home from last year and reuse as many of those as we can. things like scissors, plastic pencil boxes, pencil sharpeners and rulers can be reused and there is no reason to buy new ones.

I have stretched my budget the most by using a lot of the free supplies that were offered through cvs and by waiting for freebee offers to come along like the free backpack at staples a while ago.

I use the survey sites (such as lightspeed) and save up the gift cards I earn throughout the whole year. Back to school shopping is a lot less expensive when I’m armed with lots of gift cards!

    Thank you

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...
