Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!

Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

I save money by using coupons and buying school supplies when they are on sale. I also buy clothes when they go on sale at the end of the season and save them for the following year.

I have quit buying pre-portioned packages of snacks. I buy a big family size bag and a box of store brand plastic bags and make my own. I also make a big batch of muffins and cookies and put them in the freezer in individual plastic bags so they are ready to stick in the kid’s lunches.

I start back to school shopping in January. You can always find great clearance items in Jan and Feb, so I start stocking up on basics and store them. Don’t show them to your kids or they’ll want to wear them immediately. Usually the only item left is the first day outfit – which I always let them choose.
Linda
I shop all summer for clearence cloths for the kids. I also watch for great deals on school supplies, you can really get some good discounts.

shop using sales combined with coupons and hopefully store sale combined with store coupons combined with mfg. coupons for free or close to it on many school supplies.

I buy a lot of my kids clothes, shirts especially, when they go on clearance. I just buy a size bigger and then they can wear them the next year!

I try to buy clothes for the next year when the current years clothes go on clearance. I look for tax free weeks, clearance and back to school sales and go to the place offering the best discount. For lunches I use coupons and sales combined. For back to school supplies I get the best price for whichever supply from the place that offers them the cheapest (I got a lot with the free after EB deals at CVS this year) Sometimes you can find some steals at the office stores but it is usually only 1 or 2 items a wk.

What I do is find just about everything I need at the Dollar Tree store.

I have paid almost nothing on school supplies this year, and our school gave both my students lists a mile long. Between reusing what was still good from last year’s supplies and picking up freebies and 1 cent items from CVS and Staples (including a free backpack from Staples!) my kids are all set on supplies with lots of extras for mid-year replacements.

My savings tip is to keep an eye on the ads and don’t wait until the last minute when stuff may be sold out or the sales over! Thanks for the contest!

Last year when my son was starting Kindergarten I saw how expensive it was to wait until the school year started to buy.
When supplies went to 75% off at Wal*Mart we stocked up for stuff that he would need no matter the grade and put in a big storage bin. I simply visited that and pulled out what was needed and surprised at how much was left for next year!
When winter clothes went on sale in the spring we bought his jeans and sweaters for this year, Walgreens had BOGO backpacks this year so we got two plain colored ones instead of a character that he would not like next year. (9.99 for 2 bags)
I combined my Old Navy coupons with their sales and got him some shorts then went to Payless BoGO and got two pairs shoes one a size for now and one a size bigger for later. (14.83 for two pair shoes!)
I got his entire school wardrobe, backpack, lunch box and supplies for a full year + some left for next year for less then $100.00!!! And the only reason it was that much is they have to purchase the shirts for $7 each at school.
My husband was extremely proud and bragged about my savings to his friend the other night! (They spent $750.00 getting 3 kids ready, I nearly fainted!)

My best savings so far has been buying clothes used at the Thrift store. I am still looking for certain items, but I have gotten some great deals with paying $1.79 per lb for clothing. I also have been checking the free section of craigslist and I got some lunchboxes for free! I also did a clothing swap. As far as school supplies, I am going to shop for those today and I will be using my coupons!

My advice is to buy out of season! Get the winter clothes for next year in the spring sale, stock up on summer stuff at the end of season sale, and if anything stationery is on sale, bag some!
Companies aren’t dumb. They know when people buy school stuff, and the prices go up accordingly!
