Dream Giveaway: $50 Home Depot Gift Card

January 26, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

dream-gift-cardRaise your hand if you love The Home Depot!

Thought so – I mean, what’s not to love? I get inspired to do some sort of household project just walking through their doors.

Here’s another bit of inspiration on a more serious note.

Through Feb. 28, The Home Depot is offering a commemorative “Dream” gift card celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When consumers purchase the collector’s edition “Dream” gift card, The Home Depot will donate five percent of all sales to the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The donation will assist in the building of a permanent exhibition home for his personal writings and papers.

The collection of original documents by Dr. King includes more than 10,000 items, among them 7,000 handwritten notes spanning from 1946 to 1968. They include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses. The King Papers will be part of the exhibition offering of The Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Dream cards can be purchased at any store, or online at homedepot.com/dream.

Talk about amazing and inspiring, huh?

I have one of these commemorative gift cards loaded with $50 to spend at The Home Depot to give away to one Deal Seeking Mom reader!

To enter leave a comment telling me what inspires you. It can be an event, a person, a speech – you name it.

There are 2, well 3 people that inspire me more than anything else in the world. First are my 2 sons. (6 and 20 months). The other is my Dad (he passed away in June from Cancer) Everything I do to try to make my life better is because of them. They are all my everything.

    Thanks!

I am inspired by my mom. Because of a genetic condition, she had to have a kidney transplant about twenty years ago. She has taken awesome care of herself and has never complained even though the medicines she has to take have created numerous other problems like skin cancer that has disfigured her face. As of last week, she is now coping with my dad’s diagnosis of a very rare and probably deadly cancer. She has always bloomed where she’s been planted and has never let hard things in life get her down.

There are many many of my family members and my friends that inspire me, but the other day I was the recipient of a small random act of kindness. I was going through the toll booth and when I got up to the window the lady there said the guy in front of me just paid for my toll. Needless to say it surprised me, but it inspired me to pay for the person behind me.

My late mother-in-law and father inspire me. They both died from terminal diseases. My mother-in-law fought a long battle and often tried experimental drugs in hope to help others survive longer. My father did the same, they both lived lives that could inspire many. They both died painful deaths, but neither complained or stopped their normal lives. They inspire me to keep going not letting small obstacles get in my way. Learning how to muddle through pain, disappointment, and failures. I get up each day with a positive attitude and tackle it as though it was my last!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
