Dream Giveaway: $50 Home Depot Gift Card

January 26, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

dream-gift-cardRaise your hand if you love The Home Depot!

Thought so – I mean, what’s not to love? I get inspired to do some sort of household project just walking through their doors.

Here’s another bit of inspiration on a more serious note.

Through Feb. 28, The Home Depot is offering a commemorative “Dream” gift card celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When consumers purchase the collector’s edition “Dream” gift card, The Home Depot will donate five percent of all sales to the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The donation will assist in the building of a permanent exhibition home for his personal writings and papers.

The collection of original documents by Dr. King includes more than 10,000 items, among them 7,000 handwritten notes spanning from 1946 to 1968. They include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses. The King Papers will be part of the exhibition offering of The Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Dream cards can be purchased at any store, or online at homedepot.com/dream.

Talk about amazing and inspiring, huh?

I have one of these commemorative gift cards loaded with $50 to spend at The Home Depot to give away to one Deal Seeking Mom reader!

To enter leave a comment telling me what inspires you. It can be an event, a person, a speech – you name it.

What inspires me is other people, such as the 56 year old woman who just got her nursing degree or the single parent who’s keeping it together against all odds. It might be somone I’ve read about or someone I’ve met, even if it was just to chat in a checkout line. Seeing others overcoming major and minor obstacles gives me hope that it’s possible for myself and others to do the same. The funny thing is, none of those people realize the positive impact they’re having on others not directly related to their lives.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

i think that when you are an artist you are inspired by everything around you, the world, the people you love, watching great moments and making great memories. i cannot exactly pinpoint one thing that completely consumes my inspiration, but i do know that i always seem to think of things when i lie in bed at night and so i’ll write them down to make sure i will think of them the next day!

I am inspired by people who have nothing and make something positive come out of it. My mother for example, had a hard life, was put into foster care and never had a family. She struggled at everything she did but she never quit. There was no parent guiding or providing an example for her. She overcame obstacles including my father’s death when my sisters and I were 1,5 and 6. She worked at least 2 jobs at a time, sometimes 3. She continues to be my inspiration even though she passed away almost a year ago. Thanks

Seeing other people being successful at something that I hope to achieve inspires me. When I see another person using coupons at the grocery store, I’m inspired to continue to do the work it takes for myself. When I see someone accomplish a work goal that I’m striving for, it makes me think that I can still accomplish that same goal for myself. Seeing others successful helps make me successful too!

And, knowing that someone is always watching me even if I’m totally along inspires me to be the best that I can!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
