Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

Want to win a this fabulous Vicks VapoRub Prize Package?

Of course you do – I wish I could win myself! Just tell me about your favorite way to comfort yourself or your child when a nasty cold infiltrates your family. Do you have a special remedy that’s been passed from generation to generation? Maybe you make a big batch of chicken noodle soup like me.

I rub Vick’s Vapor Rub on the bottom of my feet at the first sign of a cold. I don’t know if it’s an old wives tale or mind over matter kind of thing but it seems to stop a cold in its tracks!!

OK, this one is funny, but my husband swears by it. Whenever you get a bad cold apply Vicks VapoRub to your neck and wrap your neck in a (clean) white knee sock and fasten. Go to bed with as many covers as possible and sweat it out. Who am I to argue if it works?

I take the kids out on the porch swing in the middle of the night to breathe the cold night air to soothe their coughs. All wrapped up in down comforters and cozied up together- It makes everyone feel better.

I am passing on the tradition of getting in bed with drink and tissues nearby. Cozy up with favorite quilt. Then watching old black/white movies. My 2 year already loves to cuddle up with me to watch comfort movies when he feels sick. Just loving each other and sharing each others space to feel good!

When the kids are sick they ask for mom’s special blanket (a prayer quilt I was given from church) and we cuddle on the couch, read books and watch movies.

I have you added to my blog, too.

Whenever my daughter comes down with a nasty cold or flu, we all take a teaspoon of sugar, crawl into our bed, and let our daughter watch t.v. (rare!) with us until she is groggy. I love it because she snuggles up next to either her dad or I and the sound of her breathe just comforts us. We also keep a humidifier in her room to combat the dry nose syndrome.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
