Artistic Inspiration Giveaway: Crayola Creativity Packs

August 11, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

CrayolaCreativitycast_LOGO

New Crayola Crayons were one of my favorite back-to-school supplies as a kid. There was just something about a brand new pack of shiny, multi-colored crayons that inspired me to want to create colorful images of hearts and rainbows and all things sparkly and pretty that the imaginations of young girls conjure up. That waxy scent still takes me right back to the first day of 2nd grade, kind of like the smell of Playdoh reminds me of rainy day fun. . .

I’m so glad that Crayola products have stood the test of time and are now inspiring a new generation of imaginations. And I’m happy to share with you about how you can join in the fun!

Every Tuesday night through the month of August, Crayola is sponsoring “Girls Night Out” on Twitter – the mommy social gathering featuring colorful and engaging discussions on all things back-to-school. Crayola has teamed up with MomItForward.com, the creator of “Girls Night Out” (GNO), to bring you the “Crayola Creativitycast.” The weekly series of GNO discussions will feature a new topic each week like “Affordable Fun 101” and “Back to School Survival Guide,” and all GNO participants will have the chance to win great prizes!

For more details about tonight’s #GNO chat and how to participate, go here.

Don’t worry if you’ve already got plans during these events – you also have the opportunity to win one of four Crayola Creativity Packs right here on Deal Seeking Mom!

The Crayola Creativity Pack includes:

  • 24-ct. Crayola Crayons, the quintessential back-to-school tool that kids love for their vibrant colors.
  • 10-ct. Crayola Markers, with an array of consistent, true colors to complete any task
  • 12-ct. Crayola Colored Pencils, which come pre-sharpened with thick, strong lead made to tackle touch projects and art activities
  • Crayola Pip-Squeaks Colored Pencils and Glitter Glue, which give children big color in a small size and are perfect for jazzing up art projects.
  • Crayola Window Crayons, to help let your little ones transform glass surfaces into instant decorations with bright colors that wipe clean with a damp cloth.
  • Tadoodles Washable Crayon Buddies, which are colorful little characters that hold a triangular-shaped crayon that twists up when the tip wears down – perfect for little hands!
  • Crayola Color Explosion Black Extreme Surprises, which comes complete with a stencil sheet and two Broad Tip Color Explosion clear ink markers.
  • Crayola Color Switchers, which are dual-ended markers that allow kids to magically change the colors of their drawings with a swoosh of the “color switch” tip.

Crayola makes it inexpensive and fun to inspire your child with a lineup of school tools that are priced under $9 (with many of the school list must-haves priced under $1.00 at retailers nationwide)!

Birthday Party Bash for Nintendo Wii Review

August 10, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

Birthday Party Bash ReviewIf you’re looking for a fun, unique, and most importantly easy birthday party theme, look no further. Birthday Party Bash for the Nintendo Wii has all the tools you need to throw a fantastic birthday party – well, minus the Nintendo Wii and Wii-motes.

Inside the game package you’ll find the following:

  • party-planning guide and detailed game instructions
  • 12 ready-to-mail invitations
  • party supply coupons, including a BOGO Duncan Hines Cake Mix coupon
  • game disc with 20 fun party games

We game the game a test run with our oldest three children plus mom and dad, and it was a big hit! You can choose your party theme from princesses to pirates, as well as your own character from a variety of ages and ethnicities or even create your own character. Up to 12 children can play at a time using 4 Wii-motes.

The game system takes you through a variety of traditional and non-traditional birthday party games adapted for the gaming system. As each game is successfully completed, another decoration is earned for the birthday party. The gaming culminates with with the birthday cake and a rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

My kids thoroughly enjoyed the game, even though we weren’t celebrating a birthday at the time. Some of the games seemed a tad above their skill level, but that didn’t stop them from playing it several times after our first attempt. Our family gave it two thumbs up!

Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits for Nintendo DS Review

August 8, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

Guitar Hero On Tour Modern Hits Review
My boys were totally excited to have the opportunity to try out Guitar Hero on Tour: Modern Hits and Guitar Hero on Tour: Decades courtesy of Mom Central. Unfortunately, we had to send their Nintendo DS handhelds in for repairs shortly before we received the package.

The good news is they got their systems back in excellent time and have been jamming with these two games ever since. While the old standbys of Mario and the Lego sagas are still number one in their books, the Guitar Hero games provide a nice change of pace.

Some thoughts on the games:

  • It was really interesting to see how they adapted this game to a handheld format after playing the Xbox 360 version for awhile. The “keyboard” seems a little awkward for adult fingers (or maybe it’s just that I have long fingers) but seemed well-suited for their much smaller hands.
  • While I wouldn’t deem the music inappropriate, my boys weren’t all that familiar with it. I think they would have enjoyed it more if there were songs that were more in their age group, i.e. possibly the Disney stars.
  • The wireless play options for the Decades game is really cool and gives moms and dads a nice break because the kids can play together in any room.

Overall I’d consider these games a worthwhile investment because of the family appeal. While my boys enjoy them and play them occasionally, my husband loves them and will play for hours at a time. Admittedly my boys are slightly under the recommended age range, so it’s very possible that this is a game that will hold more appeal in a year or two.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
