BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

I have shopped at consignment stores since my children were small! Now at 22 and 19 that’s where they buy their jeans!( for about a fourth of the price) I found 2 beautiful Ann Taylor sweaters (hardly worn) for 11.95 each last month. I bring the clothes home and wash them . Then when someone says ” I love your sweater , where did you get it?” I reply ” Thank-you , It’s an Ann Taylor.” :)

We have several ways that we try to save money every day such as carpooling to work when we can, packing our lunch, turning off the lights when they are not in use, etc. One of the most recent things we’ve done is we’ve stopped buying paper towels and napkins. Instead, we use cloth napkins and kitchen towels for any use where we would have used the paper towels/napkins. Much more cost effective and better for the environment too!

I buy flavored creamer and make a pot of regular coffee at home each day. Way cheaper than stopping at Starbucks each day. Saves a few bucks a day.

I’m a subscriber. I already posted this but forgot to leave a 2nd tip, I’m sorry.
2nd tip – Eat vegetarian. We have meatless meals at least 5 times a week. Mushrooms, beans, tofu, morningstars, eggs, etc. all replace expensive meat and taste even better! Plus we load up on veggies. Good for the body, good for the budget.

My Tip would be Unplug any unused appliances in your household, such as your computer when not in use and mixers or blenders, and you can see your electric bill drop.

I take photos of the clothes and shoes I have bought at a great deal before I pack them away in storage. That way I know just what I purchased. It is a simple way to know what is a great deal.

Freeze leftovers… with a plan to re-use them in a different way! For example, I use leftovers from pot roast for a beef pot pie. I just add some other veggies & gravy.

We used to just throw that stuff away! (After it sat in the fridge for a week with the best intentions to actually reheat it one day…)

Here is my second tip –

when potty-training… we transferred from the ‘good diapers’ to the absolute cheapest ones we could find. Therefore, they weren’t too comfy for the little man when he had accidents and they saved us TONS compared to pull-ups…

Tip #2: Create a “personal price book”
In a small notebook, record bargain prices for things you buy on a recurring basis. For example, we buy yogurt, bagels, cream cheese, bread, milk, diapers every two weeks. I keep a list of items and how much a minimum bargain price should be so I know if I’m overpaying or getting a good deal.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
