BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

Our biggest money-saver is to SET A BUDGET and STICK TO IT! We have saved hundreds each month by specifying where each dollar goes and using cash for all of our everyday purchases (without the accountability of a budget, large amounts of money get frittered away, and one is left wondering where all the money went).

I’m a subscriber – 2nd tip: Get rid of the credit cards! It is so easy to spend more when you can just whip out the plastic and “suffer” the pain of losing your money only on the day your statement arrives.

For us, our biggest money saver is to make our presents for each other. My girls (11, 13, 14) are right now knitting and crocheting presents for their aunts and uncles. My sisters and I (there are 4 of us) went from buying gifts to making them for each other. We have a Hobby Lobby that for the past 5 weeks have had a 40% off coupon in their email newsletter, which we print off several (1 per customer per day). We plan our crafts around the sales and the coupons. This works for birthday presents throughout the year as well.

my favorite tip on buy pizza. i love papa murphy’s as do my kids. so to cut the cost down to practically less than $2.00 a pizza i get the coupon in the mail or newspaper for $3.00 off a family size pizza. in the fine print at the bottom it says you can use the coupone for up to three pizzas. we order the delite pizzas because they are healthier and significantly cheaper. so we maximize the coupon for three cheese pizza’s and bring the total price down to about $7-8 dollars. we eat one and freeze the others like store bought pizza’s, they freeze great! in addition to this, on every pizza is a coupon for a free cheesy bread ($3.99) for doing the phone survey, which we always do, so we usually pick this up at the same time. (anther thing we do is add our own toppings at home for the adults who want more than cheese)

you should see the people in line after me when i walk out with three pizza and a cheesy bread for under $8 bucks.

Turn down the heat to 60 to 65 degrees at night. And lower it by 2 degrees than what you normally keep it at during the day.

Oh here’s a tip: I noticed a drastic savings on my water bill by putting a timer on the counter! I literally set the timer for 5 minutes to reduce my shower time and water consumption.
I also turn the hot down a little – saves on gas and saves my skin!

It seems as though a lot of us love coffee! Several years ago my husband bought me a small expresso maker with the steam nozzle attached. This has probably saved me hundreds of dollars! Being that I drink 3-5 lattes a week.(with flavoring) Now I buy my own syrups at Walmart. It’s also a great treat when friends are over.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
