BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

I used to LOVE going to Starbucks a few times a week….at about $3 a pop, I was spending well over $15 a week or close to $800 a year on my lattes. When the holiday s came around, my spending went up due to the delicious Pumpkin Spice Lattes….well, now I just bring my own coffee to work everyday and when the holidays roll around, International Delight makes a DELISH pumpkin spice creamer that makes my coffee taste just like Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes! This is a saving of at least $1 a day but also hundreds of dollars a year!

My tip is to unplug everything in the house you are not using – tvs, dvds, phone chargers. We cut our utility bill by 20% last month.

New Tip- Save those leftovers! They are perfect for packed lunches and kids meals. If you do go out to eat, make sure you take leftover sides home too. A baked potato heats up great the next day!

Always bring your drinks/beverages from home to work. Stay away from those vending machines- they are highway robbery.

When you go out to dinner, order water instead of a drink.

I try and work from home 1 day a week- saves on gas and lunch!

We have started using our leftovers more often……..whether it be by packing for lunch the next day, or making them into a new meal the next day.

We’ve also started using less laundry detergent and softener per load, and I’ve started bringing coffee in a travel mug rather than buying a cup at the gas station each morning.

One other big saver is that I’ve started combining my trips to save on gas, and when it’s cold I don’t run my car for 20 minutes anymore, only 10.

Thrift stores, they save me a ton!

Ok, didn’t mean to go on and on…………sorry!

use your old washer barrel as a burn pit for bon fires with the family that are self contained and no extra cost. Very easy for roasting marshmallows.

My tip would be to teach yourself to shower every other day!! I used to be the kind of person that thought I would NEVER do that. Now that I have two kids, I can barely make time the shower every other day. Our water bill has gone down now that both my husband and I do this!! And it is actually better for you.

    I subscribe via RSS.

If you are a caffeine addict like me and just can not kick your habit, stock up on 2 liters when they are on sale. Just last night I hit a sale where all 2 liter Pepsi products were on sale for 88 cents. That is a great deal considering that I spend 80 cents for a 34 oz refill of soda at work and usually refill twice a day.

Thanks to you and Nick for a great contest. My 2nd money saving tip is more of a help to my kids. Have them save up for something they really want instead of just handing over the money for a new game or Barbie outfit. By giving them an allowance and having them save for something that they want, you save yourself some money by not buying everything, and you teach them how to save and budget their money. Works on two levels. My kids are now saving for cell phones and the monthly bills that accompany them…pretty big deal for a 13 year old.

    Thanks for the great contest.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
