BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

Thanks to you and Nick for a great contest. My 2nd money saving tip is more of a help to my kids. Have them save up for something they really want instead of just handing over the money for a new game or Barbie outfit. By giving them an allowance and having them save for something that they want, you save yourself some money by not buying everything, and you teach them how to save and budget their money. Works on two levels. My kids are now saving for cell phones and the monthly bills that accompany them…pretty big deal for a 13 year old.

    Thanks for the great contest.

I make my own baby food. I know this saves at least $1 a day because it’s about 50 cents or more per jar and I would need 3 jars a day. It doesn’t cost me more than 50 cents a day to make it myself.

Another way I save money is by packing a lunch for my husband every day. When he goes out, he usually spends at least $5. I know I’m saving way more than $1 on this one.

This may seem strange but when we have chicken for dinner (at least once per week) we use 2 chicken breasts and slice them in half which makes enough for my household! That shaves at least a dollar on that meal!

I posted about this giveaway here:

    https://myfinancialshenanigans.blogspot.com/2008/12/giveaway-roundup.html

Tip: Buy your holiday items AFTER the holidays when they are on clearance. Last year, I got extremely nice and otherwise expensive items (stockings, a tree skirt, lights, etc…) for pennies on the dollar. I got a display tree at Target for $5! I plan to use many of those items, along w/food and toiletries that I’ve been stocking up on, to provide a less fortunate family with an anonymous gift that I hope will really brighten their holiday.

I subscribed to your feed! Another tip is that we cut all the boy’s hair, including my husband. Since hair cuts cost about 15 bucks each twice per month that saves us about $120 per month or an average of 4 bucks a day!

Cook from scratch. It saves tons of money and is good for your body. Plus, if you more incorporate whole grains, it will take less food to fill up, saving even more money. If you plan a little ahead, you can get things on sale, again saving even more money.

I make my own bread and pizza crusts. I get yeast in bulk buying it by the pound is WAY cheaper than the little packets. Then I get flour in bulk–25 pounds for $9! I just store everything in the freezer until I need to use it. By making bread I know what’s IN my food and it tastes so good and makes my house smell great.

My next tip is to watch TV Shows and movies FREE online. Websites like hulu.com have back episodes, entire TV seasons and whole movies you can watch for free. It saves us from having to rent movies or even use netflix.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
