BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

The easiest way for me to save $1 (or more) per day is to take my lunch to work or if I go out then just buy a hamburger or sandwich with no drink or sides.

I like to plan my meals ahead (about one weeks worth), then I do my grocery list. Then I start looking around for some coupons & deals. I found out some grocery stores have special discounts on weekend evenings. Do little research on grocery store near you, you will be surprised how much you save just by going to the store at the right time. Wholesales store also sends out coupons…
My friend and I usually buy onions, potatoes and etc. at Costco and we split. It is much cheaper to buy in bulk and split with a friend then going to a grocery store and buying it by pound or small package. You also do not have to worry about your veggies rotting…
I like to eat before heading to the grocery store (it’s a must!!!! never go into a grocery store when you’re hungry… it’s a no no :( )
Having meals at home saves you a bundle and it’s probably lot more healthier than eating out. Make desserts with your kids instead of going out for ice cream. Be creative and teach them how to make cookies, pudding, jello… it saves you $$$ but the best thing of all your kids will have memories of you to cherish when they grow older.
Pack leftovers for work. Try drinking water instead of sodas. It will save you quite a bit of $ but you will also lose some weight. I did.

I save as I make my own fresh, individual cup of coffee a day( not a big pot), just one with a size 2 filter and a cone. i used to be a name brand coffee drinker because I was lazy, but am a changed lady since I became a mom.

Don’t run to the soda machine all day long for your drinks. When my husband told me he was paying $1 twice a day for plastic bottles of Diet Coke, I was shocked. Even without shopping for the best prices, you can get a case of 12 canned sodas less than 45 cents each typically. Now he keeps a case at work and runs to it for his daily soda fixes!

Thank you Walmart and Nickelodeon for hosting such a superb giveaway. Also, thank you for giving an opportunity to enter. My best money saving tip would be to apply for a Rewards card. There are so many out there that can be redeemed for points, cash or traveling points. So, this way whenever you are spendig you are also gaining something.

    I am also a subscriber.

My second tip would be to make a list of things required before hitting the grocery store or mall. This really helps going over budget.
Thank you Warlmar and Nickelodeon. You rock!

My third money saving tip is to seal your windows for the winter season. This way you can save money on gas and electricity.

    Thanks once again!

We use a tankless water heater that saves money on our electric bill. It only uses electric when your hot water faucet is opened.

I used to LOVE going to Starbucks a few times a week….at about $3 a pop, I was spending well over $15 a week or close to $800 a year on my lattes. When the holiday s came around, my spending went up due to the delicious Pumpkin Spice Lattes….well, now I just bring my own coffee to work everyday and when the holidays roll around, International Delight makes a DELISH pumpkin spice creamer that makes my coffee taste just like Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes! This is a saving of at least $1 a day but also hundreds of dollars a year!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
