BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

#3 Filter your own drinking water. I use a Brita Pitcher and filter all our drinking water so we don’t have to buy it for at home. With three people in our family we could easily go thru 1-2 gallons a day. The Britta costs me just pennies, not dollars/day!

car pooling – Make friends with the other moms of your kids – at daycare, at school, whereever – there is bound to be someone who lives close by. Cut fuel bills and have a few more minutes for yourself.

By cooking enough extra dinner for lunches the next day you can save way more than $1 a day!

My tip to save $1.00 a day is to use your public library. I do not buy hardly any books or magazines anymore. They even have music. It’s also a great place to find coupons others don’t want to use in the coupon basket. They also had programs every day during the summer and they gave prizes away and had lunch for the kids everyday. I did not have to plan anything during the summer and we saved so much money.

I didn’t see my tip#3 show up, so I’m trying it again–I posted on a private forum, but I included the public page in the website entry…..

My tip #3 is making your own dryer sheets…put about 4 parts fabric softener and 1 part water into a container with a lid (I prefer tupperware’s pick-a-deli) and put in a washcloth or sponge cut in halves or fourths. Wring out the sponge and throw it into your dryer load–reusing it next time.

My tip: Stop drinking bottled water, buy a good water bottle and refill. Not only saves money but is much greener too!

Buy sprayer bottles and fill with water and vinegar to clean countertops, windows and more. Better on the environment AND your wallet.

My moneysaving tip is to stock up on holiday decorations and gifts AFTER each holiday! It’s easy to find Valentines Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations and gifts on sale (sometimes up to 90% off) right after the holiday! Make boxes and label them with each holiday. Then, before each holiday the following year, take them out! It’s a great way to save lots of money… surely you can save at least 365 a year… a dollar a day!!

We eat out VERY seldom (maybe once per month). I’m certain that saves us far more than one dollar per day!

I just subscribed to your site (easy choice, I LOVE it!) Another moneysaving tip that I have is to unplug all of the things in your home that are not in use! I have a breastpump that I use about 1-2 times a week, and I usually leave it plugged in. My husband noticed how hot the plug was always warm. I went around my house and unplugged all the things I don’t use regularly!! Our electric bill went down by $30 in one month!! Talk about saving a dollar a day! :-)

This is my second comment and tip–I am already an rss feed subscriber.
This tip might be pretty obvious, but it probably saves us the most money –I plan all our meals in advance based around what is on sale (and already stockpiled and/or frozen). I make a shopping list based on that plan with a spreadsheet, and know exactly how much I’m spending each trip.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
