Earth month is winding down now, but I’ve got a huge giveaway that will help you maintain your green efforts long beyond just this month. Included in this giveaway are the following items:
- Bissell Little Green Machine
- Clorox Greenworks Cleaners
- White Cloud Recycled Paper Towels and Toilet Paper
- Brita Water Filter Pitcher
- Tide Cold Water Detergent – not pictured
I had the opportunity to try these products out myself, and I’ve been very pleased with all of them. I think of all of them, the Bissell Little Green Machine is my favorite because it makes cleaning up all of those little kid and pet messes so easy and convenient. The most surprising would be the White Cloud recycled paper towels and toilet paper. I was suprised by how soft they were!
How can you win?

I spend the extra $1 or so and buy natural cleaning products, such as Seventh Generation. I also use cold water whenever possible to do laundry.
Mona
I use the green bags to shop and am trying a recipe for homemade laundry soap.

My favorite green tip is pretty simple….I like to use reusable shopping bags. In addition to being good for the environment, they hold a lot more than plastic bags
Stephanie
My favorite green tip is simply using reusable bags rather than all the plastic bags that you would normally get at the store. It is something we can all do easily

My green tip is to recycle and repurpose ziploc baggies. I love to use common kitchen items and find another way to reuse them.

My husband and I recycle everything possible. We have a very small trash can for that which can’t be recycled or composted. We live in an apartment building with a small mail slot in the door. When we first moved in mail would be strewn throughout the foyer on a daily basis. We placed two green bins in the space for people to discard junk or unwanted mail. We have a mindset that our every action causes a reaction… we want a positive influence on the world and those around us! :)

i love to unplug those little appliances that are not in use.

paying much more attention to what I leave on and plugged in. I read that cell phone chargers eat a lot of energy even when not charging but still plugged in. Now I use a power strip that I turn off for all our chargers.
Maria
I use vinegar and borax as my cleaning supplies for all around the house. This is earth and budget friendly. We also use cloth diapers.
Gretchen
We use part of our kitchen pantry as a recycling center – the trash can, aluminum recycling, plastic bags, and paper/cardboard recycling are all conveniently located in the same place so that it’s easy for everybody to do their part!

“Reduce, reuse, recycle.” We’ve been focusing on the “reduce” portion these past few years. No new stuff if it can be avoided. Clutter has been reduced dramatically!

My husband and I have quit washing our towels after one use; we now use them twice before getting a new one.
Dana
We buy a lot of things second hand, and give our items away once we’re done rather than throwing them away. We’ve found Freecycle to be a great tool for reusing.

I take my used coffee grounds, mix them with a little olive oil and make my own body scrub. It works great and I get two uses with one product.

My simple tip is to buy local food as much as possible- whether that means part of a cow from a local farmer for the freezer, or dropping by the local farmers market once a week. 10% of the country’s energy use is related to our food, so reducing our “food miles” makes a BIG difference.
