Beyond Earth Month Giveaway: Products to Help You Go Green Year Round

April 27, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

earthmonth-giveawayEarth month is winding down now, but I’ve got a huge giveaway that will help you maintain your green efforts long beyond just this month. Included in this giveaway are the following items:

  • Bissell Little Green Machine
  • Clorox Greenworks Cleaners
  • White Cloud Recycled Paper Towels and Toilet Paper
  • Brita Water Filter Pitcher
  • Tide Cold Water Detergent – not pictured

I had the opportunity to try these products out myself, and I’ve been very pleased with all of them. I think of all of them, the Bissell Little Green Machine is my favorite because it makes cleaning up all of those little kid and pet messes so easy and convenient. The most surprising would be the White Cloud recycled paper towels and toilet paper. I was suprised by how soft they were!

How can you win?

I cut dryer sheets in half and only use half a sheet per load. It works just as well and we have half the trash!

As everyone knows last year serveral states in the south had a dry summer last year and some had problems with having enough water. Well, I have to let my bath water run to get warm. So I now put a five gallon bucket under the faucet and now use the cold water to water my flowers or garden. You would not believe the water that was going down the drain.

    Wow – what a giveaway!

We are going green by growing our own vegetables this Summer – I have purchased a Topsy Turvey for the tomatoes and we have made a small patch for herbs, green onions, cucumbers, lettuce, etc.

THANKS for the opportunity to win!

I am going green by making my own dishwasher detergent. There are several websites out there with “recipes” for homemade cleaning products that are cheaper and also phosphate free. Unfortunately, the comments that accompany these recipes often claim they don’t work as well as store bought. You can boost these recipes by adding a tablespoon or two of a citric drink mix that contains ascorbic acid (like Tang or most lemonades). I find that this prevents a cloudy buildup on my glasses.

We do not use chemicals to clean. We clean drains with baking soda and vinegar. Only run dishwasher when full and use canvas bags at the grocery and drug stores. .. when I forget, use paper. We also have a vegetable and herb garden, which is great, since we get the leftovers after the rabbits are done!

I microwave my clean dish sponges for one minute after i am done doing dishes. It kills the bacteria and helps my sponges last longer.

Hi! I use vinegar instead of fabric softener in my washing machine. It works great during the summer, during winter I add a tennis ball to the dryer to reduce static electricity.
We compost our food scraps and then use the compost on our plants. We also have one rain barrel and hope to add another one this summer!

My green tip is to air out your home for at least five minutes a day, every day. I have some windows in my kitchen that are safe to open around my LOs because they are so high, and I just open them for a little while every day to just help with the air flow. Our homes can have very polluted air!

What a great giveaway!! I love taking my reusable bags to the store. I know it’s not much but it does make me feel like I’m doing a little something to help out!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
