Beyond Earth Month Giveaway: Products to Help You Go Green Year Round

April 27, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

earthmonth-giveawayEarth month is winding down now, but I’ve got a huge giveaway that will help you maintain your green efforts long beyond just this month. Included in this giveaway are the following items:

  • Bissell Little Green Machine
  • Clorox Greenworks Cleaners
  • White Cloud Recycled Paper Towels and Toilet Paper
  • Brita Water Filter Pitcher
  • Tide Cold Water Detergent – not pictured

I had the opportunity to try these products out myself, and I’ve been very pleased with all of them. I think of all of them, the Bissell Little Green Machine is my favorite because it makes cleaning up all of those little kid and pet messes so easy and convenient. The most surprising would be the White Cloud recycled paper towels and toilet paper. I was suprised by how soft they were!

How can you win?

Leave a comment with your favorite simple tip for living a greener life. Going green doesn’t have to be hard, so let’s help each other out by sharing the little changes we can make that can add up to a larger impact over time.

Ok, I’m not a mom, I’m a dad, but I do most of the shopping for our family. I just subscribed to the RSS feed through Outlook yesterday. I was referred here by my boss – who is a mom – and I’m really thankful…to you and her!

    Green Tip:

We are trying to do a little composting for our first garden. We save all our coffee grounds, egg shells, and fruits & veggie peels, and put them in our garden.

I hang my laundry outside in the summer and wash all my clothes in cold water. I also started a garden last year for all our veggies during the summer.

We’re definitely trying to green up around here…I have my own canvas bags I use when shopping. We recycle aluminum cans. We are planting a garden again this year, and use rain barrels to water it whenever possible. Our city just announced a recycling program last week, and even though it is limited and doesn’t have curbside pickup, we will definitely be collecting what we can and taking it to the recycling center (only when we have a bunch though…no sense in making several small trips!).

I have been collecting numerouse reuseable bags from Walmart, Walgreens and Krogers so I dont have to keep using the plastic bags at the stores.

Get rid of the disposables! Cloth bags for shopping, washable non-paper towels in the kitchen, and pack lunches in re-usable sandwich bags in a cloth lunch tote with a stainless steel water bottle. It’s greener, and cheaper in the long run.

My simple green living tip is to put your reusable totes in your car, because they will always be forgotten if you keep them in the house.

  22. Brittney

    April 28, 2009 at 4:05 pm

I try and unplug the appliances that I don’t use in the kitchen or around the house.

Me and my family try not to buy bottled water unles we ‘have’ to, instead we refill our own plastic containers in those ‘watermills’, we use reusable bags for grocery shopping and we don’t use the dishwasher often maybe once every 6 months.

Going green idea: Use reusable tote bags when ordering to-go food, such as curbside pickups ot takeout.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
