Beyond Earth Month Giveaway: Products to Help You Go Green Year Round

April 27, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

earthmonth-giveawayEarth month is winding down now, but I’ve got a huge giveaway that will help you maintain your green efforts long beyond just this month. Included in this giveaway are the following items:

  • Bissell Little Green Machine
  • Clorox Greenworks Cleaners
  • White Cloud Recycled Paper Towels and Toilet Paper
  • Brita Water Filter Pitcher
  • Tide Cold Water Detergent – not pictured

I had the opportunity to try these products out myself, and I’ve been very pleased with all of them. I think of all of them, the Bissell Little Green Machine is my favorite because it makes cleaning up all of those little kid and pet messes so easy and convenient. The most surprising would be the White Cloud recycled paper towels and toilet paper. I was suprised by how soft they were!

How can you win?

Green tip: We constantly reuse jars, egg carton containers (the ones you can wash), boxes and bowls that come from the store products we buy. We never run out. It really comes in handy when you are storing leftovers. And you also save on groceries by saving your leftovers and not buying plastic storage containers. We also don’t feel as guilty when we throw out old moldy containers. When we do buy specifically to store we either purchase resealable baggies to cut down on waste material and make it easy to throw out old uneaten leftovers or vaccume bags and freeze the leftovers for another meal.

We are big on saving water. We always take quick showers and don’t wash anything that hasn’t actually been worn for a whole day (I actually know people who try things on to decide what they are going to wear for the day and if they don’t pick it they still wash it!!). I also only wash my clothes in cold water and take lukewarm showers. We never water the lawn. And we always turn the water off when we brush our teeth!

I just signed up for the forum-picturecrazy-
we recycle as much as we can, I hang clothes outside, we use cold water in the washer, use canvas bags at the stores, and this is our 2nd year with a garden.

I plant cardboard in my garden. It sounds wierd, but it decomposes and helps keep the root system strong and helps to prevent the soil from eroding and sinking.

My Easiest and favorite tip that I started doing is to STOP buying bottled water! I am ashamed of myself for contributing all that plastic to the landfills. WHAT was I thinking! I drink at least 2L a day!! I am refilling a cute water bottle I really like and it is working out quite nicely!

Of course we are recycling as a family, taking shorter showers, washing the clothes in COLD water and NO washing the CARS! A dirty car is a BADGE of honor these days!!!

I have a pile of kitchen towels on my counter, to use when I need to wipe up, wipe my hands or even grab a pot. It cuts down on paper towel usage :-)

I do our wash in cold water, we have a water filter on our sink and our water dispenser on the refrigerator. I have been incorporating reusable bags in my shopping trips. Every little bit helps.

My green tip is to stop using paper towels. If my household can do it, anyone can, we used to be paper towel abusers, using them for everything, but now we use rags, cloth and wash them, works great!

Recycle, reuse, and don’t shop a lot and be a “conspiscuous consumer”. Less is more, don’t clutter the earth with garbage, and don’t clutter your life either.

I reuse water bottles over and over and over instead of drinking from a new one each time.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
