Behind The Scenes With The Dyson DC35

May 17, 2011 by Tara Kuczykowski 41 Comments

I introduced you all to the Dyson DC35 a couple of weeks ago. In case you missed it, the DC35 is the newest product in the Dyson lineup, a powerful cordless vacuum with a detachable that allows it to transition easily to a handheld. Like other Dyson vacuums, the Digital Slim doesn’t lose suction, so you can tackle room after room, job after job.

A few interesting facts on the Dyson Digital Slim Vacuum:

  • Powered by the Dyson digital motor, the vacuum has anti-static carbon fiber brushes to remove fine dust particles from hard floors.
  • Dyson’s patented Root Cyclone™ technology – condensed to fit into the machine – spins dust and dirt out of the air using centrifugal force, so there’s no loses of suction.
  • A dual power mode allows up to 15 minutes of constant suction. For stubborn dirt, a button can trigger 6 minutes of higher suction.
  • A 26 inch, lightweight aluminum wand attaches directly to the machine to convert it from a handheld to a slim vacuum cleaner.

I found this behind the scenes video showing all that goes in to engineering and testing fascinating. I think the fact that Dyson tested this product for three full years before bringing it to market shows their dedication to quality. Take a look and tell me what you think — and I’ll have an opportunity for one lucky reader to win one of these soon!

What did you find most interesting about the development of the Dyson DC35 or Dyson in general?

My son and I saw the ad for this and talked about how great and compact it is. We would love to have a Dyson but we could never afford it with my income. Looks like a great product.

Wow! Who would have thought that so much went into building a vacuum cleaner! A motor stronger than a Formula One motor! A microbiology lab with real dust mites to study! Looks like Dyson covers just about everything! No wonder this is supposed to be such a great vacuum!

I have always wanted a Dyson….any of them… but could not afford them, and now my grown daughter wants a Dyson 35, as do I of course. Would love to win and finally own a Dyson, this version would suit me at my age:) Thanks for this opportunity!

Holy cow! I loved the little video. I think the most interesting thing I learned was about them growing their own dust mites and how many prototypes they went through to get the first Dyson vacuum cleaner.
I can’t wait to see what you do for a give away with this, when I first saw a commercial for it, I told my husband that I was glad I didn’t already have a Dyson cause I’d be wanting to upgrade! :) Of course the reason I don’t have a Dyson is cause I can’t afford to spend that much on a vacuum cleaner right now! LOL

The dog hair bunnies are becoming GODZILLAS in my house, Please let me win this one! With one 3.5 year old daughter, 2 very hairy shedding dogs and 2 very hairy shedding cats, I WANT to win this DC35. It is amazing how many times a week I curse my little cordless vac that dies about 3 minutes after use. This DC35 would prevent me from ever having to curse again, especially under my breath like I do every time I need to vac these HAIRballs up out of my house. I like that they did so much research on this machine to make it very desirable in the house, especially that the dust mites are picked up by such a small POWERful machine!

Love it! With 3 kids under 5, 2 cats, a dog and 3 birds I could really put this to good use! Plus a dyson would last me forever! I can not believe the science involved to create it.

DH and I saw this ad and we would love it!! We have a dyson it’s a huge vacuum but it works awesome – it was our most useful wedding gift! We had 4 hand vacs before we got the dyson hand vac and have since given all the others away. Dyson works like a charm everytime! If we could afford it we would have gotten the Dyson fan, everything they come out with is better than the last, as if that could be possible! I would love to have the power of my Dyson in a smaller form!

I was surprised at all the engineers working on the new Dyson DC35. and the fact that it took 3 years to get it just right. I would love to have one of these. My son has horrible dust allergies and I think this would do better than the one I now have.!

I find it amazing how many prototypes he made to create the first vacuum 5,127 I mean that
is amazing and all the engineers and scientist they have over 600 working every detail
of the vacuum. I have never had a Dyson, but I am sure I would be more than ecstatic with
one.!!! Would definitely understand and feel more appreciative after watching the video!

PS did you pay attention were they grow their own dust mites!!!!

DID YOU SAY 15 MINUTES OF USE??????????

    FOR HOW MUCH AGAIN???

AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE UP FULLY FOR ANOTHER 15 MINUTES OF USE???

I might have to wait until it hits Kohls, to PM to Sears, Target, Lowes, etc. and use 15% off with kohls cashback earned for maximized savings..will definitely not pay full price for only 15 minutes of use and wait 3 hours to charge up.

I can’t believe how many engineers they have working on the vaccuum. That is awesome. I have an older Dyson and I love it. I would love this one because it is much more lightweight.

OMG I have dreamed of having one of these Dyson’s! Every year around Christmas I hope to get one from the day after Thanksgiving Sale with no luck. This year it’s a much needed item in my house so I don’t have to borrow my mother’s anymore.

This vacuum sounds like a dream! Very impressive how they grow the mites, and test the vacuuum filters. One vacuum I use, is one I received 31 years ago for a bridal shower, would love the new Dyson.

This Dyson looks like it is the best one yet. I can’t believe they grow their own dust mites to use to help in testing the vacuum. It is so gross to think of all the things on the ground-especially in tight places. This would be able to clean all those places. Awesome!

First thank you for all the time you spend helping me to save money. Being retired I look forward to the mail coming every day to see what it will bring me. Dyson’s look like awesome vacuums and with 3 furry kids in the house I have to vacuum every day. My house is one of those houses everyone comes to which is great. I have company pretty much every day and sometimes many times a day and that does not include my 4 kids, their spouses and the 10.2 grandkids! I would love to have one of those new Dysons to lighten my load! Thanks, Gma Shari

Who would have thought that it took so many people and so much technology to build a vacuum. I just got my first dyson about 2 weeks ago for mothers day from my mom. So while I really don’t need another one ( I did not get this one, I got a DC25 all floors), it really would be nice to win one to give it to my mom. I could never afford to buy one for her and was so happy she got me one that I really would just love to return the favor and show her how much I appreciates everything that she does for me.
