We only have a TJMaxx in our town, but I love it!

As far as making our kids’ back-to-school wardrobes last… considering we live in Florida and it stays hot here for most of the year, we tend to mostly stock up on warm-weather clothes and then get a few jeans/sweats/hoodies/etc. to layer over them for when it’s a little cooler.

How do I stretch my kids’ wardrobe for back-to-school?…..I often don’t purchase new clothes until absolutely needed. Then, I use coupons on sale dates. We also receive a lot of “hand-me-downs” so that helps with making clothes go a long way.

We stretch by a friends network of mom’s distributing hand-me-downs. Also, we shop the clearances from last season and store them until needed.

I stock up on good finds from garage sales and Ebay and then supplement them with items from store sales.

We always wear lots of dresses. Layered with sweaters, t-shirts, and leggings they can make dozens of outfits with just one dress.

I buy my son’s clothes a bit big and he can wear them longer.

We do a lot of layering. When I buy clothes I try to buy things that can do more than one outfit (short sleeve shirt with shorts or capris or jeans or under a jumper, then use a long sleeve shirt with all of the above). We also have 4 girls, so we do a lot of handing down to get every bit of use out of clothes! :-)

This fall I am buying cotton kint leggings and long sleeve shirts to wear under all the beautiful summer dresses in my daughter’s closet. She won’t wear thights, but loves the leggings! I also LOVE shopping at TJ Maxx and Marshalls because they have excellent quality, brand names, and fabulous prices! Hope I win. THANKS!!

Consign clothes that do not fit any more and with the cash you make buy new clothes right there in the consignment store…you can get wayyyyy more for your money

We’re pretty lucky living in Florida… they can wear their shorts & short sleeves for most of the year. So I dont do much layering, but I always buy stuff on sale!

I save by buying on clearance all year long. I have shorts in my son’s closet in the next few sizes, that I bought last year at Target, 75% off. I also buy jeans and shirts when I can find them really cheap.

I’m still a “kid” myself, but I stretch out my clothes by ONLY buying new clothes when I need them. Also, I shop at consignment stores and thrift shops as a way to reuse and recycle. And of course places like TJ Maxx and Marshalls! This $25 card would be particularly useful for a new pair of boots I am eyeing.

My name on the forum is College Student Saver and subscribe via Google Reader.

    Thanks!

I always make sure I have matching clothes so some clothes don’t sit in a drawer and collect dust. I also give my sons clothes to his younger cousins and make sure I don’t buy more then he needs.

Buy off the clearance racks 6 months ahead!

Most of the deals I’ve found on store clearance racks right now are spring/summer clothes – nice Easter-y dresses for my little girl, etc. Many are 70 to 90% off. If she wears a $40 dress once before drawing on it with Sharpie it’s a big deal. When you can buy 10 similar dresses for $40, that one isn’t such a loss. (Not that she needs 10 Easter dresses…)

If I remember right, you get like 5% back if you use a TJX credit card, as well – plus a 10% discount on your first purchase.
