One thing I do is buy high quality clothes like Gymboree when they are on clearance and I have additional coupons. I then resell them on ebay when my son has outgrown them and often make more money back than I actually paid for them to begin with.

I shop clearance all year. If I find a really good deal (especially on jeans), I buy the size for the next season we’ll need them. I also go to second hand stores to find some steals and deals. I haven’t paid full price for any of my girls’ clothes!
Stephanie
My oldest daughter usually grows so fast, so at the end of a season is when I buy her some outfits that go for both summer/fall, winter/spring in a somewhat bigger size. That way when I start the next season I’m not starting from scratch. For example, around the end of last summer, I caught some deals on skirts and short sleeve shirts so that when this summer came along I would have some outfits to start the season!

I buy the kids’ clothes at a local consignment shop. They wear short sleeved shirts under sweatshirts when it gets colder.

My youngest daughter wears skirts all year long. She adds footless spandex tights when the weather gets cooler, then wears heavy tights during the winter.

I use dresses as jumpers with long sleeve tees and tights underneath them. For my son I layer long sleeve tees under short sleeve ones for a “skater” look.

Wearing tank tops under light jackets will help get extra use in the fall.

With 2 boys, I’ve found that sometime the better deal is spending a bit more to get higher quality clothes. Not only will they last longer (ideally, until my boys grow out of them!), but they may also last as a hand me down to my younger son!

We live in Arizona and since our winters are pretty mild, we buy mostly short sleeved shirts for the school year and just put solid color long sleeves under them in the winter time. They can be worn year-round this way.

I use my 3 yr. old’s outgrown dresses as tops with leggings or jeans. I also swear by the Gap sales rack!

I usually shopped at outlet stores for back to school clothes when my children were in school. We also were glad to recycle any hand me downs from friends and family.

I have a wide group of family and friends with kids whose ages stack within a year of each other. We constantly swap clothes back and forth for the next kid down the line. Since most of the younger kids are outfitted from the older kids, we chip in to buy the older kids clothes when we see sales and cute things, knowing they’re coming right back to us!
