My kids are old enough to pack their own lunches, but I make sure that I always have plenty of healthy choices around so that it makes it easy. My kids love the Quaker Quakes rice cakes with chocolate, so I make sure we have some of those around as a treat.

I like to pack healthy snacks – fruits, veggies with dip, turkey sandwiches, and then one special treat.

I send lil’ notes in my sons lunch. I also cut his sandwich into dinos and call his food funny names.

I take my boys shopping for their snacks so that they have some say about what they get in their lunches. It’s a fun activity that allows us to bond while they learn about nutrition (but don’t realize it.) Win-win.

I bought my son the Laptop Lunchbox – it’s hard to NOT pack it healthy! The little compartments are SO cute!

We tuck cartoons and notes into our kids’ lunches. It always makes them smile. We also use low-fat cheese sticks, yogurt, veggie sticks and fruit in their lunches. I’m lucky because most of the kids love salad in their lunches, too.

I like making my daughters lunches fun by sticking a cute napkin in her lunch. I will go to the party store and check out the clearance bin for party napkins. I stock up and give her pretty ones every day… she told me she loves it and so do the other kids!

My child is not old enough to pack a lunch but I imagine I would fill it with fun cut up fruits and veggies and include a note (my mom did that sometimes). I also will try to let them choose what goes in their lunch from various choices.

To make school lunches fun and healthy, I always let the kids be a part of the process. Whether it’s freezing some water or juice to help keep their lunches cold or cutting up veggies to put with dip, I think it helps make it fun when they’re involved.
