Bottled Up Designs
Olive Hoop Necklace
Who knew that old, broken glass could be turned into such beautiful jewelry? I get tons of compliments on my Olive Green Hoop Necklace. People are shocked when I tell them it came from a vintage wine bottle.
Therein lies the true beauty of these pieces. Each one is utterly unique and has its own personal story behind it, which is included with each jewelry piece. The only problem is you’ll find it tough to choose just one item with such an array of styles and colors.
More About Bottled Up Designs
An avid glass and bottle collector, Laura Bergman spent countless hours poking through the many old glass and bottle dumps scattered throughout the natural wooded habitats and rural farmlands in Pennsylvania. However, seeing the beauty and the history in the broken glass left behind, decided to pick up the pieces and turn them into something beautiful again.

I do a lot of art with recycled items at the child care where I work. We don’t have much of a budget for craft items, but you can usually get parents to bring in things they would normally throw out.

I recycle t-shirts into the cutest diapers – and they’re super-duper soft, too.

We recycle all the usual stuff with our garbage collection. I turn any printed things no longer needed or kids school papers into scrap note paper. We reuse all the gift bags and bows and turn old Christmas cards into gift tags. I’ve made old jeans into purses or locker pockets. The kids like painting old night light or window candle bulbs and turning them into small ornaments or gift accessories.

We just recycle all the usual things with our garbage collection. Nothing fun or artsy around here.

i “re-use” a lot of containers from baby supplies. we mostly buy refill baby wipes, but when i do get a new container, we have found a lots of uses for them! we keep hair clips and ties in one. they work well for crayon, marker boxes. and for keeping various little toy collections in. i also re-use the glass baby food jars. some are used out in my husbands workbench, some for thumbtacks, or rubberbands. and i give my mother in law a supply once in a while, she makes jams and dips for craft shows and uses them for that. i also re-use the plastic baby food containers for when i make my own baby food to freeze. and they are great for single servings of jello too! our city requires recycling of paper, plastic and glass.

I recycle all the norms, paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, but Free Cycle has become a great resource for me. You should see if there is one in your town…

Our recycling is in the practical category: newspapers, bottles, cans, boxes. Thanks!
Amy
We recycle anything we can. Plastics, paper, bottles, cans, and so on…My favorite thing to reuse again and again is gift bags, bows, ribbon, and wrapping paper if possible. Been doing alot of that with the upcoming holidays.

Being a single mom and a full time graduate student, I am forced to recycle and ‘upcycle’ every day. Some of the things I do include cutting up last year’s Christmas cards to make new tags for presents and using newspaper funnies and pretty store bags and paper to wrap presents. I also make toys for my 10 month old son, such as a drum out of a coffee can and maracas/rattles by placing beads and dried beans in water bottles. For Christmas this year, I’m having a friend knit (since I don’t know how) a large purse/bag using strips of plastic bags instead of yarn. It is going to be a beach bag for my sister who lives near the ocean, and since it’s made of plastic bags it’s naturally waterproof! We’re using colored bags (such as the orange ones Goodwill used around Halloween) to give the bag some great color!

If I forget to take my grocery bags with me and end up coming home with plastic then I turn around and send those bags to daycare so that they don’t have to use their big trashbags when the babies blowout or when they send blankets home at the end of the week.

I always save the cardboard from paper towel rolls for my kids to color, use as spyglasses, etc.

I work in the office of a plumbing company that provides an unlimited amount of water bottles for employees to drink during the day. I collect the used plastic water bottles and take them to the local humane society (where they use them as chew toys for the pets).
